Tobias POV

Tris finally fell asleep after three hours of tossing and turning. She's been having nightmares for a long time but they recently came back. Every night she has the same dream. The same one I've been having. I don't know what it means but it means something.

The sun starts to shine through the blinds of the window next to the bed which tells me it's already morning. Did we stay out all night? My head feels light but I ignore the feeling and pull myself up and out of bed. I slowly walk out of the room so I don't wake Tris. Her hair is sprawls across her face with her hands under her cheek and her body under the warmth of the blanket. I close our bedroom door and head to the kitchen to make breakfast. As I get closer to the counter I notice a little slip of paper lying next to a glass. I pick up the sheet of paper and bring it close to read it.

You will regret your decisions.

Panic rises in my body as I drop the paper and rush into Melanie's room. I fling the door open to find her little pink bed all made with the teddy bear I gave her rested on top of her pillow but no Melanie in sight. God please no.

I scream for Tris to get in here as I frantically run around the apartment calling out Melanie's name. Tris walks out of the bedroom rubbing her eyes. "What." "Melanie's gone." I say as storm into the hallway and run over to Christina's apartment. I pound on the door until someone finally opens it. "What the hell-" "Melanie's gone. Have you seen her?" "No not since you guys came home last night. You guys were pretty drunk." "What no-" "Tobias get in here now." Tris walks up behind me with tears streaming down her beautiful face. "He took her." Tris says as she clenches her fists. "Who?" Christina says as she walks closer to Tris. "Ben." My hands clench into fists by my side as she says his name.

An hour later the whole community is in our apartment. Kylie stands in the corner trying to figure out what happened. Christina said we came back home last night drunk but we made it back and got Melanie into bed. The last thing I remember is leaving the building and walking back to our apartment. Tris said the same thing.
"So Christina tell me exactly what you remember from last night." Kylie sits next to Christina. Christina rubs her hands against her legs and looks up at Kylie. "Well I was going to go and get some fresh air last night when I saw Tris and Four walking back from the building across the street-" "Was Melanie with them?" "-Yes I had had her in my arms." I interrupt the conversation. Why is she asking Christina when she should be asking us. My clenched fists rest on my lap. "-they came upstairs and were walking like they were drunk but I didn't think anything of it. It must have been the champagne I gave them earlier but champagne wouldn't have made them that drunk." A worried look appears on Christina's face.

Kylie continues the conversation for another hour then finally people start leaving. Tris goes over to Christina's place which leaves Kylie and I to talk. "I thought we would be done with all of this. It's been two years, how did he find us?" I walk closer to Kylie and sit on the stool next to her. "When we found you guys I knew he would come back some day I just didn't expect it to be this soon. Ben never gives up. If he wants something badly he won't stop until he gets it." She turns her head to face mine. Her breaths become faster. Like she is hiding something. "I was in his mother's experiment. Jeanine Matthews. You probably don't remember me but I was in Abnegation. I lived across your street. I saw what your father did to you everyday but I couldn't say anything because he threatened me too." My head becomes cloudy as an image of the house across my street comes to mind. "Kayla?" Kayla was one of my good friends when I was younger. I would sometimes go to her house before my father came home but I never told anyone of what my father did to us. When my father found out he told me to stay away from her and I did so I wouldn't get in trouble. "Yeah it's me. I changed my name so no one would know I came from there but I guess people should know." She smiles the same exact smile I remember she had as a child. "How did you get out?" "Right after you transferred to Dauntless. I wanted to go to dauntless with you but I knew they were killing Divergent's-" I stare at her. Shocked. "A man from Dauntless- my aptitude test administrator- came to my house one day and told me I needed to get out of Chicago. He told me about the people beyond the wall and that if I left they would find and help me. A few days later - after a lot of thought- I packed my things and snuck out to the wall. I managed to hack into the system and open the gate. -obviously I got an aptitude for Erudite- I spent around three months out on my own in the ruins of outside Chicago until one day a truck picked me up and brought me to one of the camps." She composes herself and continues. "We had word that an experiment close by was going haywire and that we should take the people out of it. I didn't know you would be there but when I saw you I didn't want to tell you who I was because I knew you probably wouldn't remember me. I thought we took care of Ben. We shot him but apparently he's alive." She waves her hands in the air and brings them down.

Her eyes meet mine again and she can tell I'm shocked."I should get going-" She stands up and starts to walk away but I grab her arm before she can leave and pull her into my embrace. "I'm sorry for not staying with you when I was a child. I'm sorry for all you had to go through with my father. I tried and tried to be with you but my father would punish me every time I tried to see you." A tear falls from her eye but she wipes it away. "I'm sorry for all you have gone through too. I'm sorry Ben took Melanie. Tobias-" Her body pulls away from my embrace. She places her hand on my shoulder. "I promise we won't stop fighting back until we have your daughter back. You deserve a family."
