I watched as Stiles struck up a heated conversation with Scott who was looking across the field at someone I couldn't really see. Stiles hit Scott across the shoulder and walked away. Scott reached out to Stiles and grabbed hold of Stiles's jersey. Stiles turned around and I watched as Scott ran his hands through his hair, a defeated and small look on his face. Stiles shook his head and said something to Scott and together they walked back to the team, waiting for the coach's next orders.
"So how do practices normally go?" I asked Lydia who was texting someone on her phone.
"Well, coach has first string players usually do more of the practicing and he has all the horrible players watch them and try to learn by seeing," Lydia answered, pursing her lips as Jackson scooped up the ball and ran towards the goal on the other side of the field. Scott was on the field as well, running with Jackson, trying to stop Jackson from reaching the goal. Which he did. He shouldered Jackson and watched as the blond fell over on the grass. Lydia tensed up next to me and I could feel her exhale softly as Jackson got up. "I don't know why Scott's on the field. He's usually sitting on the bench with all the others."
"He blocked every single shot," Allison reminded Lydia who just shrugged. "He's amazing today."
"Of course. Today of all days," Lydia shook her head smiling. "This practice is pretty much the most important one of the whole season. It's where coach places you in ranks. Whether or not you're going to play at all in the season. If Scott's out there, that means he might get a shot at starting."
I nodded and let my eyes drifting over to the other boys who weren't playing attention and instead they were wrestling on the grass or talking. Only Stiles was paying attention to the practice, playing with some of the blades of grass. Stiles had a straight face on, making it look weird since the only kind of expression I've seen him wear was the cocky smirk he always gave me. Right now though he was studying Scott who was smiling, glancing up at Allison for the millionth time.
I quickly got bored after watching the lacrosse team. The time flew by unbelievably slowly and halfway through, I found myself texting Allison about anything. We talked about moving and how annoying it was. I invited her over for dinner and she said she might swing by if her mom and dad didn't have anything for her to do. I smiled over at her just as Lydia stood up, stretching.
"Well, practice is now over. Thank, God," Lydia rolled her eyes as she walked down the stairs and onto the grass. "Come on, we have to wait for Jackson!"
"Sorry," Allison sighed, following me down the stairs. "I have to get back and unpack some of my boxes. I'll see you l tomorrow."
"We can all walk to the parking lot with you," Lydia offered. Allison agreed and the three of us walked over to the parking lot. "So. How was your first day of school, you two?"
"Great," I smiled, looking between Lydia and Allison.
"Same," Allison nodded, returning my smile.
"Well, good. That means my job is done," Lydia smiled. "See ya!"
We all laughed as we reached Allison's car. Allison climbed in the front seat and offered me a ride which I politely refused. Once Allison pulled out of school Lydia and I walked back to the bench where I sat while waiting for school to end. I looked across the parking lot, seeing if there were any small black cars.
"What are you looking at?" Lydia asked, craning her neck out at the lot. "See a cute guy?"
"No," I shook my head, laughing. "I'm just trying to find this car I saw earlier.
"How long is Jackson going to take?"
"He's usually in and out in about five minutes. He doesn't really like to hang around school that often," Lydia smiled, a blush creeping up on her face. "So... you said you met Jackson? How'd you like him?"
