Allison was sitting at our messy kitchen table, the television on in the next room. When Allison reached me the rain was pouring down, leaving both of us soaked. She looked both terrified and happy when she sat down, ignoring all the unopened boxes all over the floor and the table. I was walking around, trying to fix up two sandwiches for the both of us. Once the sandwiches were done, I sat down at the seat across from Allison who seemed to be rocking back and forth in her seat.

"Okay. What's the big news?" I asked, chomping down on the sandwich.

"I ran over a dog about thirty minutes ago," Allison smiled, looking down at her sandwich. "Oh! That's not the good news!" Allison hastily replied after seeing my horrified expression. "I ran over the poor dog and I put him in the back of my car and I drove over to the vet's office and you'll never guess who works there!"

"Who?" I ask, feigning interest.

"Scott," Allison smiled. "He was so nice and calm to the animal and afterwards he asked me out!"

"Wow! Scott! Wow! Awesome! Incredible! Wow! Gosh! I'm so excited!" I smiled, finishing up the sandwich. Allison made a face at me and rolled her eyes. "But really," I smiled sincerelly, "That's awesome."

"I feel bad," Allison frowned, setting down her sandwich. A second later, Allison lit up, "Let's get you a guy!"

"Um," I stalled, trying hard not to think of a very specific guy. "I'm good, thanks. Besides, it's only been one day of school, correct? I don't think I can handle all the school work and still be expected to have a boyfriend!"

"I'm doing it," Allison pointed out.

"Whatever," I rolled my eyes, still thinking about the bite which hadn't left my mind since I came back from Stiles's house. "So I've been thinking about the girl they found in the woods."

"Really? Do you know what happened?" Allison asked, leaning forward in her seat.

"Do you think it could've been an animal that did it?" I asked, glancing over at Davey to see if he was listening in on our conversation. "Like, a wolf or something?"

"... You know? It might be," Allison nodded. "My parents, before we moved in, warned me that this place has an animal problem. Or something like that."

"Davey said he heard a growl or something in the woods," I leaned forward. "He said it was too loud or something to be a dog. Do you think it could've been a wolf?"

"Out in the woods behind your house?" Allison asked, standing up. "Let's go, then!"

"What? Now?" I asked, glancing over at Davey who was now watching us. "What about dinner?"

"What about dinner? We'll just be out in the woods for a second!" Allison persuaded. "Are you scared to go out in the woods?"

The woods?" Davey shot up from his seat and ran over to us, an eager expression on his face. "I wanna go! Let's go, Mia!"

"If your brother isn't scared then you shouldn't be," Allison smiled. "We'll bring flashlights and you can bring any weapon of choice."

"I..." trailed, looking over at Davey who was already rumaging through the boxes, probably trying to find some of the flashlights. "Any weapon of choice?"

"Sure," Allison nodded. I nodded back, glancing around the room when my eyes landed on a box labeled "HOBBIES". I walked over and opened the large box, pulling out a nine iron I bought my dad when he tried out golfing. "Satisfied?"

"Very," I nodded, taking a practice swing. "Very original, don't'chya think?"

"The thing about Mia is," Davey whispered over at Allison, "That she thinks she's very funny. So, my tip is to just nod like what she says is funny and she won't explain the joke further."

"Let's just go!" I rolled my eyes as I walked over to the doors that led to the outside. Allison and Davey were still talking to one another when we reached the beginning of the forest. "Okay, what now?"

"Now, we let me lead," Davey pushed me aside and turned on the flashlight. I was about to protest but then thought that if any of us knew about the wilderness, it might be the seven year old. "Follow me!"

Allison and I looked at one another before following the 4'8" boy into the woods. The trees were losing its foliage but it was still very dense. I had on a headlight and trees blocked me from seeing anything in front of me. I tried hard not to think that a girl about my age died in the woods, possibly near where we were standing, and instead focused on walking without tripping which was proven difficult. Multiple times I dragged Allison down with me, almost taking Davey down as well.

"Mia, you really need to know how to walk one of these days," Davey shouted out of anger, Allison trying to hold back a laugh but ending up snorting anyway.

Suddenly, I heard a branch snap. Davey held up his hand and signaled for us to stop walking. I glanced over at Allison and held up the iron closer to me. I should've grabbed the baseball bat instead. I heard another twig snap, closer this time, as well as a growl. The growl was faint and nearby. I looked over at Allison and she nodded her head back. I'm guessing she was signaling that whatever made the noise was behind us.

Suddenly,  two hands clamped down on my shoulders and I heard a "YEA!!!" I didn't waste any second taking the iron and swinging it into whoever it was's back. I put all of my force into the swing and felt quite accomplished before I heard a very familiar sounding groan from the object on the floor which was withering on the ground.

"Shit, Mia," Stiles groaned.

"Now, that," Davey smiled, "Was funny."
