Today was Double Date Day. I was going to go over to Allison's house after school to help her get ready for it. My mind was still reeling from my almost-triple date with the Bruce guy and I cringed again. After school I went out to the lacrosse field to look out for this Bruce guy. He was tall, wide, and missing some teeth. Now I know what Lydia thinks my standards are. Stiles was way better looking than Bruce.
As I pulled up to Allison's driveway I grabbed my sketch of the wolf and tucked it into the glovebox. The picture was starting to give me the creeps and I just wanted to burn it... maybe I was going to get rid of it tonight.
I stepped out of the car and happened to see Mr. Argent playing around with something in his garage. I looked over at their front door and considered just ringing the doorbell and not saying hi to the most intimidating man on earth. But before I could reach a final decision, Mr. Intimidation turned around to look at me, a daunting smile on his face.
"Amisa, how are you?" He called out, beckoning me to walk closer to him. The closer I got to him, the better I could see what he was playing with. It looked like a professional-looking crossbow. "I didn't know you were coming over today."
"I'm just here to help Allison get ready for her date tonight," I shrugged, looking down at his weapon. "Are you a hunter or something?"
"Sure," Mr. Argent smiled a knowing smile, holding up the crossbow so I could see it better. "I'm just getting ready for something. I'm sure you've heard about the half-eaten girl?"
"Who hasn't," I tried to joke. "Oh, I get it. Is the crossbow for your protection?"
"For everyone's attention," Mr. Argent corrected. "Maybe next week I can take you and Allison out to the woods to practice shooting at targets so you two can protect yourselves."
"I'm not the best at aim," I shrugged awkwardly. "Or anything else that has to do with shooting things."
"I"m sure you'll be fine, Amisa."
"And I'm sure you're not gonna want me holding a crossbow," I joked, backing up. "I"m gonna go inside to help Allison."
"Okay," Mr. Argent nodded, turning back to whatever he was doing with the crossbow.
Once I found Allison, we ran up to her room and began pulling out every single article of clothing she owned and picked out winners and losers. I told her all about my maybe date with Bruce and how he was the most bulky, jocky looking boy I had ever met and she began to laugh.
"You know what I think would be amazing?" Allison asked, sitting down on her bed to try on shoes. "If, since you and Stiles are so close, went on another double date with Scott and me!"
"I don't know," I took a seat on Allison's desk chair. "Lydia would be pissed and Stiles and I are only friends."
"Oh, shut up, I know you have a little crush on Mr. Stilinski," Allison held out her foot and examined what the shoe looked like on her. After she decided it was satisfactory, she set her foot down and moved on to her pants. "Besides, Lydia's just angry that you and Stiles look way cuter together than her and Jackson."
"Are you nervous?" I ask, trying to change the subject. "Nervous for the date, I mean."
"Oh, god, yeah," Allison blushed, pausing to look over at me. "This is going to be our first date ever and I'm spending it with Lydia and Jackson. I mean, I love Lydia, but Jackson gives me the creeps."
"I know what you mean," I sighed. Allison held out a green shirt and held it up to her. "That one."
"The green?" Allison looked down and nodded. "Yeah, okay, I can pair it with my jean jacket."
Two hours and one outfit later, it was time for Allison to go on her date and for me to head home. We hugged and I wished her good luck before driving back to my house where my dad and brother sat waiting, a large order of Chinese food waiting at the table.
"Mia, you're late," Davey scowled.
"Davey, shut up," I sat down in my chair.
"Both of you, eat," Dad picked up his carton of chicken lomaine and dug in. "I have to leave after this to go back to the hospital. It's going to be another late night."
"Find anything new, dad?" Davey sat up straight in his chair.
"Not really," Dad shrugged. "We think whatever bit her was canine though."
"That narrows it down," I reply, trying to be optimistic.
"If it is, we need to find the animal that did it to her because, now that its had a taste of human blood, odds are it's going to want more," Dad sighed, taking another large bit out of his food. "So we're going to need to find it and put it down so it won't kill or hurt anyone else."
"Poor animal," I sighed, glancing down at my food.
"It needs to be done," Davey replied, wise beyond his years.
Toward the end of dinner I received two texts at the exact same time. One was from Allison which read:
ALLI: OMG MIA HE IS SO CUTE! :D
And another from Stiles which read:
S: Im outside... I can see you...
I laughed and looked out one of the windows and waved. Seconds later my phone beeped again with another text from him.
S: Dont worry Im waving too
Me: Ill be out in ten minutes after my dad leaves
S: Bring out some chinese for me
Me: k see you in ten
