"Don't act like you don't know what I'm talking about. You know exactly what quest." this was star. I had almost forgotten I was sitting right next to her.
"But how am I supposed to do that? What, Star, am I supposed to just go around the globe looking for him?"
"I don't know. You'll figure it out."
"That's exactly what the three fairies said when I was 12." I said, "And did I figure it out? No. I didn't"
We were both quiet for the next few minutes. We both knew what the other was thinking. The truth is, I knew I had to go on this quest. I knew I had to start looking.
After a little more time Star finally began talking. "You know that you have to do this. If you don't... if you don't find him... I'll disappear. Please, Amber, I'm scared. I don't know what will happen to me if you don't finish this quest." She was right. I didn't know what to say to help her. The truth is, I was scared too. Star was the only friend I ever had and I didn't want to lose her.
"I'll go." I said
"What?!"
"I said, I'll go."
"Go where?"
"Where do you think?"
"You're going to look for him?!"
"Why are you so surprised? Did you think I would actually let you fade away and die just like that?" I could see how she would think that. It's not like I had a plan for the past three years that I wasn't telling her about.
"Well... it's not like you were taking it very seriously up to now."
There was a little pause.
"So what's your plan?" Star said, breaking the silence.
"About that..." I started.
"You still don't have a plan."
"I was hoping you would help me think of one."
"OK. Let's think."
The next few hours went by very quietly with the occasional "We... never mind..." or "maybe... no"
"I know what I should do." I said.
"And what is than?" Star said in disbelief. I rolled my eyes at her.
"Well I was thinking, what told me who to find?" I aksed Star.
"The prophecy."
"Right. So if prophecies always come true..."
"Then you don't have to go around looking for him!" Star finished
"Yeah! So I'll probably bump into him somewhere and then I'll ask him stuff like "do you have a chest?" and then if he does I'll know it's him!"
"Amber, I can't believe I'm saying this, but you are a GENIUS!"
"What do you mean you can't believe you're saying this?!" I complained.
"How about "thank you Star, you're so kind"?"
"How about "I'm tired let's go to your house because I don't want my mom to ruin my genius thoughts with her... well, with her."
