Five days have past, and I still didn't have much luck finding "the boy with the chest". Every day I went around town and to every other place I know but I couldn't find anyone who seemed right. I was getting really frustrated. I was listening to music on my way to get ice cream. It was 3:38. I was walking from school. I always went to get ice cream after school. I didn't always actually buy ice cream. But I always went to the ice cream shop. I always sat in the same seat in the left corner. This time when I went in, I immediately noticed that someone was sitting in my seat. I was mad. No one ever sits there! Only I sit there! I don't know why it mattered so much, but it just did. I planned on going to him and shouting at him until he moved, until I saw his shirt. He was wearing a grey shirt with a drawing on it. But not just any drawing. He was wearing a shirt with a chest! A treasure chest like the ones in pirate movies. I just stood in the middle if the little ice cream shop in shock. It was him. It was him. It was him. I kept going over it in my mind. It was him.
He had brown curly hair and blue eyes. He wasn't tall, but not short. He was reading a really big book. He looked about 13 or 14. Almost my age. I think I was standing there for a pretty long time, because people started staring at me like I just fell from outer space. I walked up to him. I had no idea what I would say. But I had to say something, right? I couldn't just go away and pretend I never saw him. I had 25 days and I still had to figure out the rest of the quest. "You're sitting in my seat." I had no idea where that came from. Had I even said that. I guess I did, because he was looking straight at me now in a questioning look. "I always sit there." This was the second time in the past 8 seconds I had no idea why I said something.
"So. I'm sitting here now." He said.
"I need to talk to you." Why did I say that? Why would he talk to a stranger in the middle of an ice cream shop?
"Do I know you?"
"No."
"Do you know me?"
"I know of you."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
"Do you believe in fairies?" I wasn't in control of my words. They were just flowing out of my mouth like a river of stupid thoughts.
"Oh, so you're another one of those bullies that think I'm childish and stupid. Well, I don't have time for this. Go away."
"No, I'm not a bully. I'm not here to bother you. I just need to know. Do you believe in fairies?"
"Yes. OK? I believe in fairies. Can you go now?"
"Look, whatever your name is. The truth is, I also believe in fairies. I can see them. Just like you can."
"How did you know I can see fairies?!"
"Have you heard of the prophecy?"
"The one on the girl?"
"Yes."
"Yeah. I've heard of it."
"I'm the girl."
"How do you know?"
"Because you're the boy."
"Wait, what?!"
I told him everything. About the fairies, about what they told me when I was 12, about Star. He just listened. He was a good listener. When I finished, he asked me only one thing. "So, if we're going to go on a quest together, I should probably know your name, right?"
"So you'll go?"
"Do I have a choice?"
"Not really. I'm Amber. How old are you?"
"My name is North. I'm 14."
"Nice to meet you North." I like that name. North. Like the northern lights. Like snow and winter. I like those things. North.
