The sound of an angrily slamming door startled me out of my awed stupor, and Blitz out of his seduce-Gabela-just-by-staring mode. I would kill Tyrone if he tore that door off its hinges. His mood swings were no reason to destroy my house, as haphazardly as it was built. I couldn't help but smile at his irritation-I could sense it was because of Jude.

It was about time that Tyrone wanted somewolf other than myself.

I had grown able to sense my Pack member's feelings, like a real blood-Alpha could. It had come over time, and a lot of effort. Kagetora had been patient with me, teaching me to sense emotions long buried. I had become quite proficient by the time the shinobi, with his slanted eyes and Asian features, had been sent on an important mission. It was unavoidable, though I'd missed the black wolf reassuring me from the shadows, his dark green eyes calm and plaid like an undisturbed pond.

As if sensing my mind was on a different male, Blitz growled. It was a deep, husky sound that sent shocks of pleasure through my body. I turned to look at him, veiling with my eyes with my lashes. He growled again. "I swear, Gabela, that if your tail isn't over here in ten seconds, I'm coming to get you." His eyes were filled with promise, need and love.

My innards clenched. Hard. "Are you sure about that?" I couldn't help but tease him, seeing his body so tense and his wolf raging behind those blue eyes. "What if I... did this?" I flung the towel at him and it draped over his head. He reached up and ripped it off, but I was already jumping out the window and making sure to give him a nice view of my rear end.

I glanced back, and stuck out my tongue, eyes dancing. Blitz didn't think it was very funny.

The instant my feet touched ground I shifted and bolted for the brush, tongue lolling excitedly. Somehow, the thrill of the chase heightened the anticipation. It felt more animalistic, more like Blitz needing to prove himself to me than the sheer domination of just giving in easily. I grinned, darting through the trees and keeping to the shadows.

A howl went up from the direction of the house. My entire body shuddered, and I tucked my tail between my legs in an attempt to ease the burning. It didn't work, and the howl reverberated through my skull and down into my chest. Blitz was coming after me, and he was going to have a race on his paws. I purposely rubbed my shoulder against a bush as I sped past, leaving my scent there to tantalize him.

It would be interesting when he caught up to me-but for now I had a lead.

And I knew the forests around Mist Rock better than any other wolf-after all, I was the one who had staked out the territory first, subjugating the vicious Rogues and claiming land from the neighboring packs in bloody, brutal battles of Rogue and Ring Wolves against soft Pack whelps. It had been a blood bath. The Packs were weak. Their pups were coddled, and as I dragged my tail across a tree trunk to my right, I vowed my pups would never be soft.

I wasn't stupid. Shifter heat was intended for the female to get pregnant and be tied to the male forever. I loved Blitz, but I would never do that. I could never be his little mate, Luna of Deep Forest. I would sooner kill myself than see my pups be raised as weaklings. This world was too unforgiving for a pup to be weak.

He was getting closer. His scent was close enough to tease me now, just as mine surely did to him. I let out a little whimper, teasing him. His paws were nearly silent as they collided with the ground and propelled him towards me, but I could hear the frantic desire in them, the desperation. It pleased me immensely to know that I could drive him to this-so desperate for me that he would do anything. It was a power every female possessed, though most had it beaten out of them. They still thought males were always superior.

Not any more. Mist Rock would become a beacon of hope and a future for females who wanted to be free. I flicked an ear backwards to gauge the distance. Blitz was about two meters away and drawing closer to me every minute. My muscles began to protest. Living in a Pack had softened my body to half its original dexterity and speed, but it was enough. My eyes flicked back to him as best I could. I could just barely catch the left side of his face, with its dark blue eye. His eyes lit up when our gazes met, and I bounded extra-hard on the next stride.
