A note to my readers:

I was incidentally looking at the houses in my neighborhood that had Christmas lights decorated all over it in order to celebrate the occasion. A thought crossed by in my head; that made me think, what if I decided to take an random walk outside my home in the middle of the night just to look at the lights. This crazy thought lead me to write a story based on it, and Voila! Here's an story about 18 year old Rose Senara who meets trouble one fateful night , despite her only wanting to see the Christmas Lights.

So November just finished and December had arrived. I wasn't honestly expecting this year to go so fast. I flipped through the calendar to look at the remaining dates left. It wasn't long till Christmas. Just a few more weeks. I lay on the couch while my parents were asleep in their respective rooms. I was going to be in senior year next year, now that I was on holidays. I looked up at the clock, as it was past midnight. I sighed. I really couldn't sleep could I. I turned off Netflix, as I sauntered over to the sliding door. Through the cold, misty glass I could notice the bright fluorescent lights from the neighboring house. Every year my street; Velvet Court would be decorated in shimmering coloured lights during the festive season of Christmas. It was a sight to behold as I usually took walks after school to see all the hard work put in. We didn't do it, but the other neighbors did. It was really tempting to walk out of my house and see them in the dead of the night. I slapped some sense into myself. I should put myself in bed right now, because you don't want to be caught on the street in your cute pug pajamas. Plus it was past 12, I am supposed to be sleeping or be doing something that teenagers normally do to keep themselves up. I turned off the lights as I made my way to my bedroom.

The thought did cross my mind again. I could just look and come back. It would only be a 10 minute walk. It would be pitch black, but I could carry my phone that has a flashlight in it. Velvet Court won't hurt me.

Ok, so let's do this. I grabbed my black cardigan, since it was pretty breezy outside. I took my phone and put on my brown ugg boots, as I quietly slipped out the front door. I kept the lock free, as I will be back soon. I don't think I need to take the house keys with me. So I left and walked up to the lampost in front of my house. The cold air would tease me as I took my steps, my shadow was the only companion right now. I was seriously walking down alone in my street in the dead of the night.

Okay, so the neighboring house. I took a good look at the golden fairy lights that took over the trees and roof of their house. It was beautiful to see, as I admired the way they were positioned. Honestly in the night, it looked even more beautiful. I moved up to the next one that was a double story house. The house was decorated like a gingerbread house, where candy cane lights stood on either side. I also admired the inflatable Santa Clause on a bike who was glowing and moving his head. This was definitely the best one.

I walked up to a couple more houses of festive lights and celebrations till I approached the more dark and lifeless house. This one was on the end of the street, unique from the others. It was swamped by looming tall trees, as the house was quite up. It had a steep driveway that lead into the black double story house that my fellow neighbors liked to speculate about. It was the house that often frightened me whenever I walked past it during the day-time. In this hour of the night, it looked nothing less than the haunted house you would be warned about in horror movies. I mean I didn't believe in the undead, only that we would go to heaven one day. But this house was odd, creepily odd. It seemed empty, as no one usually inhabited this soulless property. Obviously it wasn't decorated in fairy lights, but I did notice a strange glow coming from the right side. I hope I wasn't imagining things. Should I check? I looked at my phone. 12:35. Great I spent more time than the 10 minutes I promised myself. I knew no one like existed here, but there was light coming from inside. Could someone really be living in here? If I have come this far for a walk, I'm sure it won't hurt to check it out. I knew the gate would be open, as children in my street sometimes liked to dare themselves to knock and take off as a joke.

I was honestly intimidated but surprisingly curious by the odds. I crept through, as I felt the leaves crunch under my feet. I walked closer to the right towards the glow. I decided to fasten my pace as I walked up to it. I came across an small gate that seemed to lead to it's backyard. I noticed that it was easy to open, as I took down the latch to open it. I coughed at the dust and cobwebs that surrounded it. The path before me was slightly dark, as I raised my flashlight and continued following the glow. My hunch was correct as I found myself in the backyard of the scary house. I heard movement as well as noise that reminded me of a stream of water, as something was moving about. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea to look. I mean what if it attacks me, the list is endless. I slowly crept towards the noise to find myself staring at a figure. His back was turned to me, as he was clearing up some sort of mess. I noticed the glow was coming from the backyard lights of the house. So there was someone who lived here? If I had stayed and watched Netflix, I wouldn't have discovered this fact. I didn't exactly want to confront him, but just closely observed his actions. The noise was the water tap, as the figure washed his hands, rubbing off something red on his skin. It wasn't what I thought it was, was it. It could be paint. But considering the geography of this house, it seemed likely. Velvet Court was noble, these things didn't really happen. It can't be blood, can it?

I stayed hunched near a large shaggy bush, watching the mysterious man. He finally turned around as I looked at the most gorgeous man I could set my eyes on. He looked young, lean, seemed pretty fit in his tight clothing. He had an really handsome face, that made me want to eradicate the idea of blood on his hands. I practically lived on this street my whole life, and a sexy stranger inhabited the most unexpected house on the street. I'm so glad I knew. I admired him in the light as I watched him disappear into the house. I really wanted to follow him, but didn't know if it was a good idea.

I sneaked up onto the wooden deck, as I walked in the direction he went in. I slipped in the sliding door, as he didn't close it behind him. Wait? Was he aware of my presence? I was at the back of the house that didn't seem as old from what it looked on the outside. The house was adorned in wood. It was decorated nicely, with antiques displayed everywhere. I noticed a fireplace that was currently on with cream comfy looking furniture. I felt the surface of a large wooden staircase that lead upstairs. I think he went up. I normally didn't do these type of things, like following strange men in strange houses. But I was feeling a little adventurous tonight. I just hope he didn't turn out to be some sort of psycho. I made it up to the top as I continued searching for him. I noticed my ugg boots had a sticky substance underneath it, as I lifted one of them up. There was red substance smeared on it, the same thing that was on the stranger's hands. It wasn't what I thought it was? I straight away noticed a trail of red before me that seemed to lead somewhere. I followed it, making sure I didn't step on it further. I immediately thought back to American Horror Story, I wasn't exactly experiencing one was I? It honestly looked like a sight that would be found in a Lady GaGa video. My heart started pounding as I neared it's end. A door was pried open, as the trail stopped there. I walked inside a room where it accumulated into a larger pool of redness that seemed to be disrupted as if it was being cleaned up. As the spectator of this, the perpetrator wasn't too happy to see me witness his work. There was a cloth over my mouth, and I fell unconscious.
