'You look beautiful. The same dress that caught my eye. You know red is the colour that makes a woman look even more sexy.' I blushed. ' I'm not exactly sexy.' He showed me that adorable grin. 'You are. Trust me.'
He lead me into his car, as he took me to his place. The party apparently began later at 8, so I was the only there so far. 'Why did you decide to pick me up earlier?' 'I want to get to know you. Before any other guy at my party does.' 'Really? I'm not exactly popular, like the rest that will be at your party tonight. No one knows I exist at Velvet High.' 'Tonight everyone will. And I don't care if your not popular enough. I know you exist, that's enough. And now I want to know how an beautiful girl like yourself only got discovered during our final year?' He lead to me to his backyard that was already prepared for the party.
We sat down together. 'I usually occupied myself in the library all the time. It's where I got away from people.' 'Why would you do that?' 'I'm scared of people. I just like to be away from confrontation.' Even though I was intrigued by a killer on my street and decided to pursue him. Aren't I being hypocritical here? 'Can I let you on a secret?' He leaned in. 'Yeah?' 'If you actually come out of your shell, the world isn't really a bad place. Not everyone is a big bad wolf.' 'Are you referring to yourself?' 'Yes. I would be one of them.' 'Why me. I mean there are other girls like Bianca. Sarah.' 'Yes. But those girls weren't as interesting as you. I mean it's not easy finding an beauty with brains, especially one that is sweet. They only considered me as trophies for their reputation.' 'Oh.' 'Yeaah. You have no idea.' 'You know were in eachother's english class next year.' 'Mr Haywire's class.' 'Yeah..him.' We went silent for a bit. 'It was rather unfortunate what happened with him.' 'Yeah his remains were found.' 'What! How do you know?' 'My uncle Ned is a police officer and he is well acquainted with his case.' 'Your uncle is a cop. That's so cool. You must hear interesting stories all the time.' 'Yeah..we do.' 'I need to know more about you. But first of all you need to know other people. This would be our last year next year and I want you to be able to have fun. You can't be holed up in the library corner all year. If you become friends with me now, I swear next year will be so memorable for you. I promise you that.' 'I don't need your sympathy. If you think I am sort of damsel in distress.' 'I'm not. I swear. It's just that if there was ever a time you wanted something more. I'm offering it to you now.' He was right. I did often wish to be noticed, well atleast by him. I recalled the silly infatuation I had on him since freshman year. Today he was offering his friendship. How stupid could I be? 'Fine. Done.'
The party begun sooner as the students of Velvet High all poured into his large double story house. He had a large pool in the back that was near the party's site. Josh took my arm and introduced me to a lot of people that I knew but didn't know me. It's like they were meeting me for the first time. I thought about Kate, probably snuggled up on her couch envious of my invitation. She didn't seem happy that I was chosen to come. She was more desperate than me to fit in with the popular crowd. I personally hated them and usually poked fun at them. This all started from that night. If I hadn't had acted on my impulse, I wouldn't be here tonight.
It was like when I met Hunter, the notion of coming out of my comfort zone happened. It was like a trigger of wanting to let go of my inhibitions and wanting to be accepted. When he noticed me as the girl who wanted adventure, then I had started to feel as if I must pursue it. Josh noticed me. He was offering me to be part of his world. The adventure began now. I was no longer the girl hidden underneath her books. She had come out, thanks to the strange man she met on her street. It sounded weird, but it went on to be something like that. Hunter made me gain confidence and self-fulfillment.
I spoke to some of Joshs' friend. I felt nervous but they were nice enough to me. I spoke to Sam, one of his best friends till Bianca and her little squad joined us. 'So you decided to show up, despite my warnings.' I didn't say anything. 'Bianca!' Josh came over by my side. 'Bianca, Rose. Rose, Bianca.' 'No need. I already know who she is. The girl that's barely visible. How did she end up here in my man's party.' 'I invited her.' 'But why. She's not part of our group.' 'But she will be.' Bianca scoffed at Josh, while I smiled at him. She gave me a look of disgust, clearly displeased with her man's decision. 'I don't know how you wormed your way through, but I'll make sure you'll end up back where you belong. Into that same library corner I always see you in.' I rolled my eyes. Bianca left with her posse. 'Don't listen to her. She doesn't appreciate the competition.' 'I thought she was your girlfriend?' 'She was. But she still likes to think she is. She's just insecure about you.' Bianca was blonde gorgeous, she had nothing to worry about compared to a brown-eyed average girl.
