I suddenly woke up to the sound of knocks on the glass of the car door window. I shot up.

"May! What are you doing?"

It was Nick.

"Roll down your window!"

"Oh, good-morning." I awkwardly responded as I rolled down the window of the car. Oh great, I bet he thinks I'm homeless now. I thought to myself.

"Why are you sleeping in a car in the parking lot of a park?"

"Um, I..." A lump began to emerge in my throat. I felt tears welling up in my eyes but I tried to hold them in but it was no use.

"Mabel, don't cry. Here, let me into the car, please?"

I sniffled. "Alright." I said as I sobbed gently.

"Hey, come here." Nick said as he sat in the passenger side of the car. "Oh jeez. Your eye is really bad, May. I'm taking you to the hospital-"

"No! I don't wanna go there. I'm fine please don't I just need to let it rest it'll go down."

I rested my head upon his chest and he gently stroked my hair and assured me everything would be ok.

"Everything will be alright, May. It's ok." He assured me.

"Nick, no it won't. Everything is wrong and now I've got nothing and no one and-" I said in-between sniffles.

"Mabel, don't worry. Do you wanna tell me what's wrong? I'm here for you, you know." He said.

A part of me felt happiness and safety in Nick, but after all the things I've been through I found it hard to trust or believe someone. I wanted to tell him about my past and why I'm like this but we're practically strangers.

"Well me and my best friend got into an argument and now I've kinda got no place to stay, I mean I thought I'd find something but I'm broke too!" I cried, sitting up in my seat. Well that couldn't sound anymore desperate. I thought to myself, I didn't mean to let all of that out. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to let all of that out." I exhaled.

"I'm happy you told me. It's good to let what's on your mind out." Nick laughed which made me crack a faint smile. "You know, I know that this might sound kinda forward but, um, I kicked Dylan out and he's not allowed to even enter the building anymore so do you maybe, want to-"

I interrupted. "Nick, no, I know what you're going to say and that's so kind of you but, I don't wanna be a burden on you, you've got your own life and commitments and, gosh, I wouldn't even be able to give you any mon-"

"Please, May. I really insist that you stay with me for as long as you want." He said, holding his hand in mine. "I can help you. I can help you get a job where I work, that way you'll be able to make some money and that'll take your mind off things."

"I don't know. That's so amazing of to offer that but I feel bad." I replied.

"Bad? Why would you feel bad for?" Nick questioned.

"I'd feel bad because I don't-"

I was interrupted by the sound of my cellphone ringing. "One second." I said as fumbled around for it in my bag.

"Who is it?" Nick said.

I checked my phone. "It says Unknown caller."

"Pick it up." Nick insisted.

"No! It's the second time I'm freaked out." I argued, the phone still ringing.

"Here lemme say something." Nick said.

"Ugh, fine." I passed the phone to Nick.

"Hello?" Nick spoke into the phone? "Yeah who the hell is this and why do you keep calling?... I'm Nick, Mabel's friend...whatever, who is th-"

Nick laughed. "The loser hung up."

"Who was it what did they want?" I asked concerned.

"It's just a stupid prank call."

"Well what did they say?"

"That oh 'watch out we're coming for you." Nick laughed.

My face dropped. Yeah it could be a prank or it could be something sinister. "That's not funny."

"Why do you look so concerned it's only a prank caller, May." Nick chuckled.

"I'm fine." I exhaled. "And Ok, thank you. I'll come and stay with you. Thank you so much." I said, hugging Nick tightly. "But there's one thing I should probably fix right now..."

"And what's that?" He chucked.

"I, um, kinda stole this car-"

"You did what!?" Nick panicked.

"No, no, it's not like a grand theft auto, you know that friend I was telling you about, well it's hers, she gave me a spare key to her house and I got all my stuff and took her car too..." I grinned.

"Well we need to go back there and give it back, May. Don't worry, I'll do all the talking for you." He giggled.

"Whatever you say." I agreed.

"You must be tired, May. Let me drive." Nick smiled.

"Sure." I responded, swapping seats with Nick. He started to car and began to drive.
