Chapter 3:Don't Touch My Daughter

I gasped in pain as the tall man drove his small dagger into my stomach over and over. The little three year old standing by the dumpsters cried out as a brown-haired man grabbed my ankles and dragged me down to the ground from my kneeling position on the hard cement alley.

Ever since two days ago, when I lied to Ashton about who Nevada is- instead of telling him the truth, I've felt bad?

I don't know really; I'm not happy about lying to the guy I like, but I don't really think he would still think of me the way he's told be he does-smart, brave, and confident-, if I told him the truth; that Nevada is my daughter.

I was broke out of my partial-reverie by Nevada screaming. I turned my head as much as the pain in my neck would allow me and saw that a small man, only maybe an inch taller than me, was holding Nevada's small pale wrist. There was a small animal-that I guessed was the man's pet- tearing at her legs with it's claws, drawing blood and causing Nevada to scream even louder than before.

Seeing my three year old daughter being hurt by a man that I could easily beat up angered me; I should be there in front of her, protecting her, no matter what. I pulled the dagger out of my bloody stomach. Slowly I got up, making sure that none of the many cuts and bruises that littered my body would be affected. The guys that had been beating me were in shock, giving me a slight advantage, that I immediately took. I kneed them both where the sun don't shine and pinned them both in five seconds flat, my sore body aching by this point.

They grumbled and moaned in pain as I struck them over and over, eventually knocking them out. Despite the protests coming from my battered body, I made my to Nevada and the man, who was slapping her stomach, making her bend over.

I stood in front of him, slapped him, punched him, then, like I did to the other two men, kneed him in the balls and spat out,"Don't you dare touch my  daughter!"

A shadow stepped out from the shadows. I had suspected someone was there earlier but I didn't actually take in the fact that Ashton now knew that Nevada was my daughter until he sucked in a breath and asked through clenched teeth,"Nevada is your daughter?"

I was in pain and I knew that he knew the answer to this, so I decided to be sarcastic. Hey, be honest you would too.

"No, she's Santa's daughter. But I'm such good friends with him that he trusts me with his child and since he's gone this week, having a romantic evening with Mrs.Claus-"cue the wink,-"he asked me to baby-sit. And I said yes,"I explained sarcastically, feeling good with my Santa excuse.

"Oh, why didn't you just tell me?"he shot back, narrowing his eyes at me.

"I just did!"I exclaimed, waving my arms around frantically.

Behind Ashton, the two men I had knocked out earlier were standing up.

"Watch out, Ashton,"I called frantically.

He glanced behind him nervously, and, upon seeing the two giant men approaching him, walked quickly in my direction.

I glanced behind me because of a warning from Ashton and saw that he was right, the man that was hurting Nevada was slowly getting off of the cement ground. I wrapped my arms around my shaking daughter and yelled at Ashton,

"Come on!"

We rushed past the men and to Ashton's blue Maserati, narrowly avoiding the short man and his pet. I heard the three men cursed loudly, shouting profanities so loud I'm pretty sure China could here them.  Glancing back to see where the men were, I saw that the were tearing past a girl that had wandered into the alley where we were fighting, knocking her down.
