The days in the past

I was walking around the kindergarten room, looking at all the posters hanging all around the room
"Sit down children!" Yelled the teacher. All the kids hurried to there seats. I didn't really care and was too tired to care. I trudged to my chair and quietly sat down. My table partner, Charlotte, smiled at me and went back to paying attention to the teacher. I knew she really didn't want to sit by me. Nobody does.

"Vincent you have to sit down more quickly if you want to have free time at the end of the day." Said the teacher I just rolled my eyes and put my head in my hands.

"Now young man! You do not roll out eyes at me! Go sit in time out!" She yelled, pointing at the corner with a desk away from everybody. I actually didn't mind sitting away from the other kids.   I don't think any of the other kids cared either. As long as they were away from me.

I looked around the classroom to see if anyone looked. Nope. As always. But there was someone I had never noticed before. A girl was sitting in the back with her hair covering a little bit of her face. She noticed me looking at her. She blushed and looked back at the teacher. I want to talk to her at recess.

~Recess time~

All of the kindergarteners rushed outside to the playground. That thing was a piece of junk. It was made of wood that was rotting. Some of the monkey bars were missing so you couldn't really go all the way across, unless you had really long arms. The ladder was broken up so you had to be careful were you put your hand or you'll get a splinter. One slide was still in pretty good shape but the other one has a giant whole right in the middle. Even though the other slide is in good shape, you can't go down it because there is a bees nest inside it that you can't avoid.

I was looking for the girl I saw in class. I wanted to ask her why she was the only one that looked. I was looking all over the place for her. With a group a girls? Nope. Playing in the sand box? Nope. Playing in the rocks? Nope. Where was she? She seemed like a very social person. The funny thing is she was in the one place I didn't look. On the bench, by herself, reading a book. She was reading Charlotte's Webb. Whoa! She is reading a book that is like beyond our grade level! She must be pretty smart.

I walked over to where she was. She didn't take her eyes off the book. She smiled as she read. It was actually kind of ...  cute. No! What was I thinking! I shook my head at the thought. I should know better girls have cooties. Though that didn't stop me from talking to her.

"Hey um... I saw you look at me in class. I was wondering what your name was and why you did that." I asked her tilting my head while bending over. She glanced over at me and then back to her book. She grabbed her bookmark and closed her it. She looked at me then breathed in deep.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't know who you were. Sit next to me and we'll talk," she said sitting up and patting the bench next to her. I gave her a confused look and then sat down. This was going to be a interesting conversation.

She was smiling as I sat down.
"My name is Scarlet." She said looking down at her book almost as if she were afraid to look me in the eyes. There was an awkward silence that I broke.

"Okay, so why were you the only one to look at me when I'm got in trouble? I mean because, nobody else did. So why did you?" I asked. My question seemed to scare her because she breathed in real deep and sat up straight. She breathed out and looked at me.

"Because I... I um... " she said starting to blush a little. I don't even know what it means to blush. Is she getting mad? People faces get red when there mad.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you mad!" I said, shaking my hands.  She giggled and looked at me. She looked...cute again. DANG IT DANG IT! Girls. Have. COOTIES. I can't think she is that nasty word cute. She reached up an pinched my face.

"Someone's blushing," she said. She seemed to enjoy pinching my face so I pinched her cheeks to. It was kind of fun. We started pinching each other's faces. It was quite fun.

~After recess~

"Vincent, I want you to go back and sit beside Scarlet. Maybe she can keep you in check." The teacher said. Did she not see what happened at recess. She must not be very observant because me and Scarlet were the only ones with red cheeks from pinching each other.  I got up and sat beside her. She looked at me then smiled. She looked at my red cheeks, then said "Sorry!" I won't deny it anymore. She IS cute.
