"Hayes, the time has come. She is old enough. They will be coming to take her back. I will give you three months to make her trust you then I will be leaving. We are keeping her safe, she won't understand at first." His words were so smooth like he's gone over his speech many times before.
"I understand."
"You are seventeen, close enough to my sixteen year old Skylar. Don't try anything though, you will be her best friend and nothing more."
I nod slowly, my hands beginning to shake.
"Your parents will be with me to fight them off. You've been studying her your whole life, your parents have been preparing you for this. You know everything about my daughter, Hayes. She's sensitive and she will hate you at first, she'll be angry but she'll realize we're all doing her good. Don't ask about her memory loss."
I gulp.
"You'll start tomorrow. Good luck, Hayes."
