This ones kinda shit, but I hope you see where I was coming from ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
---------------------------------------------------Frank and Gerard were best friends. They'd known each other since Frank was born, and they'd grown up with each other. They lived on the same street, so they played together and often had sleepovers on the weekends. When they did this, they'd go to one of their houses (usually Frank's because Mikey was little and could be annoying) and watch movies in their room and stay up until they fell asleep on each other.
On one of these occasions, when Gerard was 9 and Frank was 7, Frank decided it was time to change things up a bit. It was Halloween, Frank's birthday, and Frank wanted to watch a scary movie. Gerard was hesitant at first, but decided that Frank's idea of scary wouldn't be too bad. I mean, he had chosen to be a vampire for Halloween, so it couldn't be that bad. How wrong he was.
Frank had searched up the scariest horror movies and selected Rosmary's Baby for their movie night. Frank had been fine, but Gerard was scared shitless. Even during the opening scenes, Gerard had buried his face into Frank's shoulder and refrained from looking at the screen. It was a strange sight: a short boy dressed as a vampire and a taller boy in an alien-esque, glittery suit.
Frank certainly thought so, but he didn't mind. He loved Gerard, and he didn't care that he was supposed to be older and stronger. Gerard was sweet and cute, and if Frank had to be brave for him, then so be it. Because, once again, Frank loved Gerard, and he would love him forever. So he just wrapped his arms around Gerard as the movie progressed, letting him know that he was safe.
Gerard had been okay for the first half of the movie, but after all hell started breaking loose, he got really scared. When there was a sudden jumpscare in one scene, he squeaked, burying his head into Frank's chest. He'd started shaking slightly, and Frank had held him tightly, kissing his cheek every time he jumped at a scary part. Gerard relaxed in Frank's arms after a while, and before the movie even ended, Frank noticed that Gerard had drifted off.
Frank watched the rest of movie with Gerard in his arms, smiling at his friend. When the movie ended, he carefully moved to grab turn the tv off. His movement stirred Gerard, though, and the small alien boy woke up. He jumped slightly and looked around frantically before his eyes settled on Frank. He sighed, grateful that he was safe in his friend's arms.
Frank giggled and kissed Gerard's cheek.
"It's okay, Gee, I'll never let anything get you."
Gerard kissed Frank back, wrapping his arms around him and snuggling into his chest.
"I know, Frankie. And I'll never let anything get you either."
They both closed their eyes and relaxed, drifting off as the seconds wore on. Before they'd fully lost themselves to sleep, the exchanged a few more words.
"Happy birthday, Frankie," Gerard muttered.
"Thanks, Gee. I love you," Frank murmured back.
"Love you too," Gerard mumbled.
And with that, the two fell asleep, Gerard not knowing that Frank would now try his hardest on future Halloweens to find the scariest movies to relive this night. And Frank didn't know that one of these "fright nights" --as he called them-- would result in the best birthday present ever: a proposal that had been years in the making.
