Frank Iero wasn't known for being shy. He was confident, outgoing, and had many friends. He was popular to say the least. And because of his popularity --and his general not-douchey attitude-- he had everyone in the school drooling over him. And, being pansexual, he would've been open to any one of them... If he didn't have his sights set on someone specific, that is.
Gerard Way wasn't known. Period. Hardly anyone in the school knew his name, save for his brother's friends and a few bullies. Gerard wasn't anything spectacular in anyone's eyes. Just some quiet, emo kid who probably spent more time drawing than he did eating.
Given his reputation around school, Gerard tried his hardest not to crush on any of the boys-- he'd only be disappointed, after all. However, his brain or his heart or whatever's in control of crushes decided to set his heights too fucking high for Gerard to even dream of. He was crushing hard on Frank Iero, and he had been since eighth grade. He stayed away from him; he doubted Frank even knew his name, much less cared.
So, needless to say, when Gerard received a note in his last period class that was signed xoxo frnk he had a heart attack right then and there. He wasn't sure what was happening; the note simply said meet me at your locker after school. He could get shanked for all he knew. But the thought of Frank Iero needing to talk to him made him feel light, so he decided he'd go anyway.
So in this way, Gerard found himself standing anxiously by his locker, clutching his books to his chest. After a few seconds, Gerard decided he'd put his books away. He felt awkward just standing there. As soon as he'd shut his locker again, he was met with the smiling face of Frank Iero.
Gerard could physically feel himself blushing, but he couldn't do anything about it. Frank's smile grew wider as he leaned against the locker.
"You're cute when you blush."
Gerard blushed even more and shook some of his hair into his face in a lame attempt to hide. Frank laughed lightly.
"Aw, don't hide. I like your face. It's beautiful."
Gerard looked at Frank through the curtain of hair around his face. He shook some of it out, and looked at Frank, doing his best to appear confident. He was still blushing like mad, though.
"Um-- w-why did you wanna s-see me?" He managed to choke out.
Frank smiled.
"I wanna date you, and I was wondering if you'd be cool with dating me."
Gerard's eyes widened and he couldn't breathe for a second. Frank Iero. The Frank Iero. Wanted to date him? He must've heard him wrong.
"Pardon?" Gerard squeaked.
"You heard me."
Gerard stared at the boy. Of course he wanted to say yes. But... He really liked Frank. He didn't want to get his heart broken by someone who didn't care about him.
"So..?"
"I... I- I can't-- I... It's just, I really like you, Frank."
"Isn't that how relationships work..?"
"Hear me out. I really like you, but I know you don't like me the same way. Maybe you like me a little bit, but there is no way you'd stick with me past a week. I don't want my heart getting broken."
