This is based on real life events that happened yesterday. Thanks to my three year old cousin for giving me this idea.
-----------------------------------------------------
Frank had a problem. His parents had finally gotten a dog! But that wasn't the problem. The problem was that the dog, Toby, was huge. Well, it wasn't that big. He was only a border collie, and even still he was just a puppy. But he was a big puppy who liked to jump on people, and Frank was a small five year old that didn't like being jumped on. So his parents had to keep Frank and Toby separate until they could teach Toby not to knock Frank over.
And that's what leads us to Frank's immediate problem. At the moment, he was stuck on the top of the play set in the backyard. He had been swinging when he heard the familiar jangling of Toby's collar. He had immediately climbed up onto the play set near the top of the slide, watching the puppy carefully.
He was okay at first, but then the dog started to climb the slide. That's when he panicked. He had started crying, yelling for help. His parents weren't home, though. He was alone. The dog was going to eat him and there was no one to help!
And that's when he heard someone shout to him. He turned around to the fence and saw his best friend and next door neighbor, Gerard Way, climbing over it. He had thought Gerard was gone for the day, but he was glad he wasn't.
"It's okay, Frankie! I'll help you!"
Toby looked at Gerard as he swung himself over the fence, landing with a thud.
"Look out, Gerard!"
Toby rushed over to him, jumping on the seven year old. Gerard stayed anchored, and he pet Toby's fuzzy head before gently pushing him off. Toby followed Gerard as he walked over to the play set, climbing the ladder and reaching Frank safely.
Frank was still crying, and Gerard hugged him tightly.
"It's okay, Frankie. He didn't mean to hurt you all those other times. He's just a little puppy and he doesn't know how strong he is. You just gotta show him that you're smaller than most people and he's gotta be careful with you."
Frank shook his head frantically, not wanting to go down there and get hurt. Gerard kissed his head and let go of him, looking down at Toby, who was bouncing around trying to reach the two boys. Gerard snapped his fingers.
"I've got an idea!"
He went down the slide before Frank could stop him.
"Gee! Come back!" He cried tearfully.
But Gerard called Toby over, and the puppy ran in small circles around Gerard's legs. He tried to jump on him, but Gerard moved before he could land on him. While Toby was turned the other way, Gerard leaned down and picked him up.
Toby struggled at first, but when Gerard started stroking his fur with his other hand, he calmed down a bit. Gerard carried Toby over to the play set where Frank was watching intently.
"Frankie! Come pet Toby! He can't jump on you now! I'll hold onto him, I promise!"
Frank looked at Toby, and then at Gerard. He took a deep breath and walked over to the slide. He went down it and jumped off at the end, walking cautiously over to his friend.
"What if he bites me, Gee?"
"He won't. It's okay, Frankie. Just pet him."
Frank reached out hesitantly. His hand grazed the top of Toby's head, and the dog snapped his head around to sniff his hand. Frank yelled and retracted his hand.
"Gee! He tried to bite me!"
Gerard shook his head, smiling.
"He just wanted to smell you. Dogs are weird like that. Come on, let him smell your hand and then you can pet him."
Frank did as he was told, ready to pull his hand back at the twitch of a muscle. He didn't have to, though. Toby sniffed his hand and then turned his head to look at a passing butterfly. Frank carefully laid his hand on top of his head. Toby didn't move, letting Frank pet him some more.
Frank smiled, moving his hand further back. Gerard grinned at his friend, happy he was getting along with his puppy. He knew he'd always wanted one, and it broke his heart to see him disappointed when he'd finally gotten one. Maybe he could help change that.
Frank's mom surprised both boys and Toby when she announced that they were back. Toby took advantage of Gerard's shock and wiggled out of his arms, running to the back door where Frank's mom was. Frank cried out when he saw that Toby was free once more, and Toby ran back towards him.
Frank knew running would just cause Toby to chase him more, so he just closed his eyes and waited for the impact that would push him over. Instead of Toby, he felt Gerard move in front of him, preparing to shield him from the oncoming attack.
However, Toby never jumped. Instead, he sat down by Gerard's feet, staring at Frank from his position. He tilted his head quizzically, not understanding why Gerard wouldn't let him see Frank.
"Frankie, it's okay. He's not gonna jump on you. Look."
And Frank peeked his head over Gerard's shoulder, looking down at the puppy, whose tail was wagging frantically now. Frank grinned at Toby, walking around Gerard and leaning down to pat his head gently.
Toby licked his hand and then walked away, tail wagging wildly. Frank turned around and jumped onto Gerard's neck, --making them both fall --and squeezing the life out of him.
Frank leaned back slightly and kissed Gerard on the cheek. Gerard blushed.
"Thank you, Gee! Now Toby won't jump on me! You're the best!"
"You're welcome, Frankie. I'm glad I helped."
"Me too," Frank said, grinning.
Frank kissed his cheek again, and Gerard copied him this time.
All of a sudden, Toby was licking both of their faces. They started laughing and tried to push him away.
"Well, Frankie, I think we taught him a new trick."
Frank tilted his head just as Toby had done earlier.
Gerard pecked his cheek once again.
"We taught him how to kiss."
