hstyles94: I don't hate you

I stuffed my phone back into my pocket and looked up, my eyes widening when I noticed that the guys were staring at me.

"What?" I questioned, furrowing my eyebrows and wondering what I could have possibly done wrong this time.

"You're not still talking to her, right?" Louis asked, concern written all over his expression.

"No..." I said, looking away from them and scratching the back of my neck nervously. I mentally cringed at how high my voice had gotten, something it tended to do whenever I was lying.

"Harry," Liam groaned, tugging at the ends of his hair, which was a lot longer than was normal for him, not as long as I had let my hair get a couple months ago, but still a pretty decent length. "You can't keep doing this. You're putting us at risk and - "

"How am I putting anyone at risk?" I scoffed, rolling my eyes at him.

"We don't know her motives, we don't know - "

"She's just a girl," I spoke over him, my tone firm and my jaw set. I didn't know why I was defending Sydney, whom I had known for only about a week, but I was.

"So are most of our fans!" He shot back, raising his tone. "Which, by the way, she - "

"It doesn't matter if she's a fan or not!" I was getting madder by the second. Literally, every word he said, made me even more upset. They didn't know Sydney. Well, neither did I, but still.

"Harry," Louis spoke up again, giving me a look that spoke louder than words ever could.

"Louis," I glared at him. "You don't know her, none of you do, and - "

"Oh, and you do?" Niall raised a brow, arms crossed over his chest.

I squinted my eyes at him, "Whose side are you on?"

"I'm not on any side, H, you know I'm not, but I just don't agree with you this time," he replied, biting his lip nervously. He looked away from me, unable to keep eye contact.

"Whatever," I mumbled, turning around and walking away from them.

They didn't understand.

I pulled my phone out to see that I had five unread messages from Sydney. I smiled.

sydthesquid: OH THANK GOD

sydthesquid: BLESS YOU

sydthesquid: I'm so sorry

sydthesquid: like, just put yourself in my shoes for a sec and tell me you wouldn't freak out

sydthesquid: you wouldn't not freak out

I understood where she was coming from, but it was still hard for me to feel comfortable talking to someone who was a fan so openly. I just didn't trust her yet, I wasn't sure I ever could.

hstyles94: okay I get it

hstyles94: now, put yourself in my shoes

hstyles94: imagine what it'd be like if the person you're talking to knew more about you than you did

sydthesquid: I see where you're coming from

sydthesquid: are you mad?

hstyles94: I'm not mad, but I just need time

sydthesquid: how much time?

hstyles94: just give me some space, Syd.

sydthesquid: okay
