January 30th, 2016 ... 8:01 PM

As soon as I could get a decent speech set for this moment, I made my way down the stairs. I saw my mom sitting at the kitchen island, her eyes set on her laptop's screen as she typed away. When I got closer, I could see that she was composing an email. Work, most likely.

I stood across from her, folding my hands on the counter. "Hi, mom."

"Hi, honey, what's going on?" She asked, immediately putting an end to her typing and giving me her full attention.

"I, uh, have something to tell you. I don't know how you'll take it," I confessed, biting my lip nervously.

"Are you pregnant?" She asks with a straight face.

"What? No!"

"Smoking?"

"No!"

"Did you drive drunk?"

"No!"

"Did you kill someone?"

"No! Mom!"

"Okay, then there is no possible way I won't take this well," she smiled.

"Well..." I trailed off and she raised her eyebrow expectantly. "I, uh, wow, this is hard."

"Let it out, Sydney," she spoke nervously. It wasn't even that big a deal, but I just didn't know how she would take it.

"Okay, so you know Kik?" I asked and she nodded, since I had talked to her about the app before. "Well, I like to prank people by pretending I'm Harry Styles and I...sortastartedtalkingtotherealHarry." I said the last bit really fast and she gave me a look of confusion.

"What?"

"I found the real Harry and we've been talking for, like, three months," I blurted out, avoiding all eye contact.

"What? That's amazing! You love that boy!" She jumped up excitedly, letting out an uncharacteristic squeal.

"Really?" I was definitely not expecting this reaction.

"Yes! Wait, how can you be sure that it's really him?"

"I asked him to prove it, so he followed me on Twitter,"

"Could have been a coincidence," she pointed out.

"Yeah, I know, but then he tweeted out a message I had sent him word for word. There was no way it couldn't have been him after he tweeted that," I explained, unable to hide the smile from my face as I remember that stupid joke.

"Syd, this is awesome!" My mom pulled me into a hug, then pulled away, "Is he nice?"

"Yes, so, so nice. He asked if we could meet," I took a deep breath as she blinked, completely silent. "So?"

"What?"

"Can I fly to him?" I elaborated, figuring she hadn't understood what I meant.

"No." She said simply, sighing, before she turned and sat back down in front of her laptop.
