Chapter 14 – Kelsea’s POV
It was Friday. After a treacherous, yet slightly pleasant spirit week at school, it was Friday, the day Grace and I were going dress shopping. I was a bit nervous to go dress shopping, let alone going to homecoming, I didn’t know how anything would turn out. Oh well, I guess we’ll just see how everything plays out.
Thirty minutes after school let out, Grace drove me and her to a dress shop somewhere downtown. By the looks of the shop, it didn’t look too expensive, but the dresses on the mannequins in the windows looked expensive. I was just worried I wouldn’t look good in anything.
Almost an hour and a combined twelve dresses later, we were getting hopeless. Grace plumped down on the vinyl chair in the corner of the dressing room, the peachy strapless dress she had just tried on, lying forgotten about on the carpet. We both still had one more dress to try on, but we were both so tired out.
Grace fished out her phone from her backpack when she heard her phone ring, a new text message. She smiled at her phone once she unlocked it.
“What are you smiling about?” I questioned, furrowing my eyebrows at her. She looked up at me from her phone, dazed, before she answered.
“Oh Ashton texted me a picture of Luke with a text saying, ‘Luke just asked a girl to homecoming…I told him that he just became a man’,” she replied, flipping her phone around and showing me a picture of Luke in the fetal position on the ground. I grabbed her phone out of her hand and looked at the photo of him in detail; he was such a cutie.
I felt her watching me looking at his picture and quickly exited out of the picture and threw the phone back to her. She looked down at her phone again and replied back to Ashton. “What did you text him?”
“I asked him who Luke was going with,” she said just as her phone dinged. She unlocked her phone and read the text, looking confused a bit. “Sylvia Hartman? That name sounds familiar! I think she’s the year below us… I had a photography class with her once. From what I remember she was a nice chick,” Grace continued. She tossed her phone down to the carpet and started tweedling with her thumbs. “Don’t get mad at me or anything, but I’m kinda shocked that Luke didn’t ask you…to homecoming…”
I gazed over at her like a crazy person. “What the hell are you on about?”
“I mean you guys have been such great friends and gotten really close since that band practice and you’re such a hottie, I’m just surprised that he didn’t ask you to the dance…”
“Did someone slip you some crack or?” I started, looking over at her. Her mouth opened up like she was about to say something, but I continued. “I could say the same thing about you and Ashton; the way you were laying on top of him…”
“Hey, that fucking bloke tripped me,” she blamed, swatting the air.
“But you didn’t get off him immediately. I saw your hands on his chest girl I saw you working those abs. Oh let’s not forget about you staring longingly into his huge beautiful eyes,” I said, making hand gestures as I spoke to demonstrate.
“I was not ‘working his abs’, my hands were just there for security purposes ok? And he was staring at me first so,” she replied, standing up and holding the last dress she had to try on in front of her in the mirror.
I stood behind her in the mirror, her eyes flicking back and forth between my face and the dress. “You could’ve broken eye contact, but c’mon chica, you know you loved it.” She dropped her hand, the dress falling away from her figure, her eyes staring at me dully through the mirror.
“Alright fine, I did love it, but that’s not the point, we aren’t talking about me and Ashton, we are talking about you and Luke,” she said, bringing the dress back up in front of her. I came to her side, holding up the pink and white high low dress I had yet to try on in front of my figure.
