"This presence is so familiar." I thought to myself. I quickly turned around to see who was behind me. It was Dean. But why is he out here, and why this time of night? Did he follow me out here? Did he hear me?! All these questions seemed to flood my mind. He stood behind me and was looking out at the moonlit lake as if in a trance. Although I look up at him he never looked back, his crystal blue eyes never looked away from the water. After a few moments I expected him to leave but instead he sat in the grass next to me, he was still looking out on the lake.
"So, you heard me right?"I asked quietly. "Would it make you feel better if I said no?" he said. "Well. I guess," I said shyly. I didn't want them to know what was going on. I didn't want them to know my pain or see me cry. I figured it's my problem not theirs. "Melody," Dean said softly as he reached over and pulled me into a side hug. "You'll be okay." he said. I wanted to believe that with every fiber of my being but I just couldn't, but his hug was so warm and somehow for that brief moment I feel safe. That's when I felt the warm tears roll down my cheeks again, but this time I felt less alone. "Dean?" I asked as I tried to hold back the tears. "Why did she have to die?" I asked. He was silent for a moment then he looked down at me. "I don't know, just sometimes bad things happen to good people. Yeah it's not fair but it doesn't matter, what matters is that you keep moving forward." he said softly. I dug my face in his jacket and cried for what seemed like hours, all the while Dean held me and comforted me, and I don't know how but I fell asleep in his arms.
I woke up to the sound of typing. I opened my eyes...I was in the motel room...was it all a dream... no it felt to real...but maybe it was, I thought. I slowly sat up and looked in the direction of the sound. I was greeted with a brightly smiling Griffen who was probably doing some research over the case. "Morning Mel",he said brightly,"how'd you sleep ". "Fine",I responded, and he went back to what ever he was doing. I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom to brush my teeth. "Hey Mel",called Griffen. I came back into the room with a tooth brush in my mouth. "Yeah",I asked. He turned to me and smiled, "How would you like to see the crime scene", he said.
"Do I have a choice", I asked. "Nope",he said with a smile and continued his work. As I walked back to the bathroom it dawned on me."Hey Griffen",I called,"where's Dean". "Umm.. I think he went to get coffee...",he called back. That's weird , I thought, he not really a morning person. After I brushed my teeth I quickly got dress and join Griffen in the car. "Aren't we gonna wait for Dean?",I asked. "No he called to say he'll meet us there". "Ok",I said.
It took a while mostly because Griffen's terrible sense of direction but after several wrong turns and even more dead ends we finally arrived to a beautiful suburban house that had been covered in police tape and a few cop cars in the street. I shook off the horrible memories, I kept telling myself that I need to stay focused, then I realized. "Umm Griffen",I asked. "Yeah", he answered. "How are we gonna get inside, it's not like there just gonna let us waltz right in and let us do are thing",I looked over at him. It looked like he wasn't even listening he was to busy looking for god knows what in the car.
Finally he opened a small compartment and smiled. Out popped a small brown box with a red bow on top. He handed me the box "Happy Birthday!",he yelled. "But it's not my-",
"Just take it", he said rolling his eyes. I laughed and took the small box, it was very light so I knew it wasn't expensive but still...he didn't have to get me anything. When I open the small box I saw a card or something. It was a press pass ID the name read "Jessica Moore", the first thought that came to my mind was....did you just steal an ID off of some poor woman. Then I saw the photo...It was me...but I don't remember taking this, I thought...so how did they. "Soooo do you like it",asked Griffen with a great big smile. "I guess but who's Jessica Moore",I asked. "Its you silly",he said still smiling which was now starting to get creepy. "Anyways your going to "interview" the witness while Dean and I check out the house ok",he said as he got out of the car. "But"- he closed the car door and started to head for the house. I grabbed my new ID and quickly followed him.
