It was pretty heavy day at work for Manik. With case audits and review of his past few weeks work in this new University. Even the calm and ever so-composed Manik was nervous. But didn't ooze it out.
Every single move has its expiry date.
So did hers.
Her Lil revenge act wasn't holding up for long. Not atleast when he was on the edge.
She didn't know to pick the tension in her own home.
Well who would be kidding even she had her fair share of stress from working at a new place and Manik was sure the venting point for her with their sexual misconfits.
"Mr.Malhotra."!
He was busy arranging some xray pix for his presentation.
"Yeah plum!"
"Could you get here soon." She started shouting his name.
"Manik.. Manik.. Manik.. Manik..!"
He came in all rattled by her noise and started shouting at her.
"Jesus Nandini.! Seriously. Sometimes you are just straight up unbearable and annoying to the core!" He screamed at her from top of the voice and picked his coat and left the place immediately.
She knew she was being kiddish. But she didn't expect him to be breaking out like that.
Suddenly tears started rolling down her cheeks.
She waited for him to turn around for the night.
She was waiting for him in the couch. She knew she had to apologize and so did he for sudden outburst.
She waited the whole night and only to be woken up by her ringtone drooling in her couch.
She swiped her mobile on and saw the time. It was 7.30 A.M. It was getting late for her. She had to get ready for her shift. She started swiftly moving around the house and finished up her work.
And side by side was calling his mobile.
His phone Was already full of her voicemails that she couldn't even talk to him.
She knew he was big boy and he would take care of himself. There was literally no reason for her to worry about him.
She reached for her ward right for the time of her Head's rounds. They took a big tour of all the inpatients in their dept. She was not even in the zone to answer the possibilities and discuss the lab reports importance to bunch of new interns there. As soon as the rounds finished she saw in the roster it was her ward day and adding on top of that she was assigned to a intro to surgery class for freshman. She sighed at herself. When she turned around she saw Manik walking with his Dept Residents and consultants. She was relieved to see him alive and not dead in an alley. She knew it was silly of her. She didn't wanna disturb him during his work hours. And could have the "The talk" When he gets back home.
The ward work was as simple as it states. She had to see charts and reports of ward Patients and make necessary change in drugs or fluids if and when needed and order in investigation and schedule for imaging if needed. She finished her work by noon. And thought she could eat and decided to call Manik. He cut her call and sent a message he was busy. She knew that cue. And went back to her routine lunch in the cafeteria and screw her brain for wanting to have something fancy with her live-in bf during work hours as if anybody cares.
She finished her lame class about intro to surgery and went back to her place.
When she was standing by the parking lot. She saw some of the new residents from EMSD and waved them hi. They also came in and started talking to her.
She introduced herself and told that she was doing residentship in Surgery dept.
She asked casually. What's with the grumpy new professor taking you people for rounds and all. I saw you people in corridor. She smirked at them.
"God. You wouldn't wanna know about that freakshow. Damn that was brutal today."
"Yeah totally brutal." the other guy also added.
"What do you mean brutal! What happened guys!" She asked them.
"Well it was the first audit after the new professor joined and the committee was bit tenacious to please. Comon at the time of need these theoretical people dunno.how in real life these protocols have to be. But gawd. Manik sir managed it with suave and nice touch"
"He did.!" She asked and she thought to herself no wonder he was all tense and rude to me. "I need to apologize to him and for being extra-pissy lately dumping all her stress on him."
"Anyways bye Nandini!" we gotta go catch the new soccer game airing now.
"Yea sure. You guys carry on.!" She bid adieu and revived her bike to.life.
"Oh god. I.have to make up for my weeks of stupidity in one day!" What the fuck am.i gonna do!" "fuck! I'm screwed!" She thought to herself as she rode to her place.
