Why am I thinking of him? I'm the one who left him. I promised him forever, but that never happened. He's gone now, and that's all my fault.

Betrayal. I've betrayed him. Promising him forever means forever. "You've done the right thing," I tell myself.

I sigh and close my eyes, leaning my head against the window of the plane.

I wake up a few hours later to a voice speaking over the sound system.

"Could all passengers please fasten their seat belts? We will be landing in a few short minutes."

I fasten my seatbelt and take a look out of my window. It's dark and I can see the lights of a city in the distance. The Gold Coast. I'm home at last.

I stare at the lights as they get closer and closer until we're almost directly above them.

A few minutes later I get off the plane with a shoulder bag over my shoulder. As I walk into the airport I look for a sign of my mother. I haven't seen her in months. She's probably changed. I know I have.

I strain my neck trying to see her in the crowd of people. I finally see waving and the face of my mother appears. I make my way through the crowd towards her, saying "Excuse me" to anyone who happens to be in my path.

My mum's standing on the outside of the crowd, so it takes a while to get to her. When I'm finally out of the crowd I run straight into her arms and cry on her shoulder. I told her everything when I was waiting at the airport the day beforehand.

"It's okay, honey," my mum says as she holds me in her arms. I sniffle and let go of her.

"You're definitely taller," mum says as she brushes a strand if hair off my face. I'm about an inch taller than her now, whereas I was about a centimetre shorter than her when I left a few months ago.

I force a smile at mum and she rubs my arm. "Let's go, sweetie." We walk away from the crowd and towards the baggage collection area. Mum waits as I collect my leopard-print suitcase and duffel bag. I follow her out of the airport and towards her car.

"Can we stop for dinner?" I ask mum once we're in the car, ready to leave the airport.

"It's nine o'clock at night and you want food?" Mum says.

"Well, I haven't had anything to eat since I arrived at the airport in Los Angeles," I reply.

"I know, I was just kidding with you." I look at mum with a serious face. She turns to me.

"Okay then," she hesitates "I won't joke with you. I get it. You're lost, Jess. You don't know what to do. You've just had your first guy problem. I'm here if you need." Mum puts her hand on top of mine and looks at me sympathetically. I force a second smile for the night and mum starts up the car.

As we drive down the road to a nearby McDonalds, I think about him. The only thing that flashes into my mind is a mental image of a guy walking towards me. He's tall and tan with amazing muscles and long, blonde hair. The only thing that I can't see is his face. It's blurred out.....
