I walk into school a couple of hours later and, instead of finding my friends like I usually do, I head straight to the school library - some time alone reading a book might help me get over my nightmares.

I look around the library for a book and settle on a nearby couch in the corner of the library, far away from the front desk and computers, otherwise known as 'the commotion'.

The book I read is about a girl who falls in love with a mega-famous celebrity. The pressure becomes too much for her, and she believes that she gets in the way of his family and returns home. It's at this point that I close the book - it's reminding me too much of my nightmares.

I put the book away where I found it and leave the library. I check the time. 8:30. Fifteen minutes until home class.

I walk through the school and towards my classroom. My best friends are all there: Chelsea, Ashleigh and Annabelle. They're standing in a circle a few metres away from the classroom. I walk over to them.

"Jess!" Chelsea screams, running up to me and wrapping me in a bear hug. I hug her back, trying to force a smile. Ashleigh walks up to us, Annabelle following right behind her.

"Are you feeling okay, Jess?" Ash asks me. There's a look of worry on her face.

"Not really," I reply "and I'd rather not talk about it right now." My friends, being my friends, left it there and changed the topic.

"Did you hear about what happened to Peter?" Annabelle asks me.

"No, what happened?" I ask her in return.

"He was in a terrible car accident last night. The car flipped and the roof was crushed. Both him and his dad are lucky to be alive."

I think about this. Of course, it's utterly terrible, but I've never particularly been fond of Peter. He called me Polly back in primary school for no reason. It still doesn't make sense to this day.

"Anyway," Chelsea pipes in "we should head to our lockers."

I walk with them to our locker area. I try to listen as they talk, but it's very hard with a million things going on inside my head.

Once we reach our lockers, I stuff my homework inside and pull out my Extended English notebook. Extended English is my favourite lesson, especially considering that I want to be a writer. I wait for the girls and we hurry off to home class.

I sit through home class and look out the window into the courtyard, not even aware of what lecture Mr Franklin's talking about. It won't stop coming across my mind, my nightmares. I keep thinking of the guy in the dream. Have I seen him before? And why was his name Cody? I guess I'd have to figure it out later on down the track.

Annabelle wakes me from my daydreaming.

"Come on, Jess," she slaps my shoulder "we have Extended English now, you're favourite lesson."

I get up and follow Annabelle out of the room, around the courtyard and up a flight of stairs to the room in which we have Extended English, all the while not speaking to Annabelle, which is unusual for me.

"Are you okay?" Annabelle asks when we arrive at the room "Because you're not being yourself, all chattery and excited."

I don't know whether to tell Annabelle. She's really trustworthy and I know that she'll only tell someone if she absolutely has to.

"I'm just having nightmares. No biggie," I say as we take a seat at the back of the room, farthest away from the door and close to a window.

"Nightmares aren't just 'no biggie'," Annabelle says, turning in her seat so that she's facing me. "You have restless nights with them."

"That's pretty much what I had last night." I don't even look at Annabelle as I say that. I focus on the whiteboard at the front of the room.

Annabelle and I have known each other since kindergarten, so I know when she's about to say something. I can tell that she's opened her mouth to say something, but Mrs Hansen walks in before she can say anything.

"Good morning, class," Mrs Hansen says as she walks towards the front of the room.

Most of the class mumbles a reply, even Annabelle. Usually I'd mumble something in reply, but today I'm just not in the mood.

I don't really pay much attention after that. The only thing I hear is something about a ten page story, which is easy for me, so I'm not really worried about it.

I continue the fantasy about my dreams for ten minutes before I hear someone say my name.

"Jess? Je-ess?" I open my eyes and look up. Annabelle's poking me with the end of her pencil.

"Huh?" I say wearily as I sit up. I must have fallen into some sort of sleep where I could hear everything that was going on around me.

"Oh Jess," Annabelle moves her hand away from me "we have to write a ten page story based on something that's been bothering us lately."

I stretch my arms as I listen to Annabelle. "Maybe you could base it on your nightmares," Annabelle suggests.

"Okay," I mumble in reply.

"I'm serious, Jess," Annabelle continues "writing down what's been bothering you may actually help."

I pick up my pen and open my book. I begin writing about my nightmares and manage to get most of my work done in the double lesson.

"Okay everyone." Mrs Hansen claps her hands " all work is due on Friday. Have it complete or you get an immediate detention."

I open my diary and jot down that information. In extension classes, unfinished work is always due the next lesson, and punishments are always harsher. I close my diary, gather my things and follow Annabelle out of the classroom. From the moment I walk out that door, nothing but nightmares flood my mind for the rest of the day.

So, incase you didn't pick it up in the first two chapters, Jess is having nightmares which she is constantly thinking about.
