Hello there everybody :D

Well, here it is, finally. I wouldn't be surprised if I have been totally forgotten, and if I have, it's completely my fault. I have rubbish at uploading for the past couple of chapters and I know that there's been a super long wait for this one. SORRY! :( Life got reeeallly busy.

Anyway, thank you to anyone reading this still now. You are the best fans I could ever conceive! ^__^ xxx

By the time we had sprinted back to the porch I felt, and most likely looked, like a shattered, drowned rat. My goose bump speckled legs were shivering in my boots, which had also managed to end up filled with water during the night. I pressed myself closer into Sam’s warm side and hoped that hypothermia wouldn’t be the final thing to top off this wonderful evening.

Just as we stepped into the dry cover and gentle light of the porch, something splashed close by. We froze, hackles raised, and Sam’s hand clenched almost painfully around my waist. I peered into the rain, squinting at the droplets that hit my eye lids.

My heartbeat slowed as the noise drew closer and a bedraggled Rose stepped into view. Her blonde hair stuck in thick brown tendrils across her face, only partially sheltered under a thin jacket that was struggling to cope with the hammering rain. Her eyes seemed to harden and gravitate to Sam’s hand on my waist. His hand in response clenched even tighter, till the point bruises tingled on my skin.

“Hey, calm down, both of you. I don’t know if you’ve met. Sam, this is Rose. Rose, this is Sam.” I gestured between them with something resembling a laugh.

Neither of them responded for a moment. I had suddenly become aware of how close I was to Sam. Not from being uncomfortable, but from how much Rose seemed to be examining it. I felt pinned to his side by her gaze.

I frowned. Had something happened between them already? Was something wrong? “Rose, what’s going on?” I called. She remained silent, only continuing to stare at Sam. I looked up to his face and saw his tight jaw twitch, rain splashing of his skin. “Sam?”

His now hard blue eyes slowly turned on me. “Nothing’s wrong, Lex. Let’s just get inside.”

He began to drag me in the direction of the door. With a sudden flash of anger at blatantly being lied to, I pulled him back to where we had stood before, and attempted to peel his rock hard fingers from around me.

“Tell me what is up. Now,” I growled, “Today is not the kind of day for me being left out of things. I won’t be around people I can’t trust.” My nerves had been worn thin tonight. These were two of the people I held closest to me and I didn’t want to be lied to and left out by them, let alone on a night like this.

“Lex-”

“If it’s a lie, Sam, save it.”

He frowned, but Rose saved him the struggle of trying to formulate the truth. “We’re all on edge,” she murmured stepping closer, “It was just a misunderstanding. Calm down.” Frustratedly she scraped the wet hair sticking to her face away and stepped around us onto the porch.

Her words had hit me suddenly in the stomach with such force that I almost doubled over. My mouth, however, fell open slightly. In the years we had known each other Rose and I had not argued once. The odd grumble maybe, but never an argument. Yet the way she had just spoken, with such an exasperated tone as if she was bored of me, shocked and hurt me in a way I could not comprehend. “Rose, I... I’m sorry,” I whispered quietly to her back as she approached the door.
