I woke up with a start, filled with the ever-so-exciting first day of school eagerness that completely masked the sleepiness that is also so commonly felt on the first day of school. I was eager to return to the Hogwarts classrooms, since it was really the first time in so long that I would actually be a Hogwarts student, and it made it even better that Defense Against the Dark Arts, my favorite subject, was my first class.
"Mornin', loves," I chirped, rolling out of bed and looking over at Ginny and Hermione in their bunk bed, Ginny on top and Hermoine on bottom bunk. I slept on the bottom bunk of the bunks opposite theirs, with the top bunk above me empty.
"Shut it, I'm tired," Ginny mumbled, the side of her face pressed against her pillow. I grabbed my uniform from the dresser where I had placed it gingerly the night before and changed into it, taking extra care to smooth out the black tights and my skirt, which fell about three inches above my knees. I slid my white button up around my shoulders and buttoned each button with care before I tied my tie and slid my grey v-neck sweater over it, making sure to tuck in my button up to my skirt before I slid my cloak on and pinned my prefect badge on my tie. I walked over to the bathroom and took my hair out of the french braid that it had been in, leaving it in loose waves before I washed my face and brushed my teeth. I swiped on a bit of makeup, just some simple powder and a bit of concealer as well as mascara before I walked back into the room and slid on my shoes.
"I'll be in the common room, breakfast starts in twenty," I said, walking out of the room and closing the door behind me before I began the walk down the stairs. My shoes clicked and clacked against the stone flooring, only stopping when I stepped onto the rug covered floor of the common room.
"Good morning," George said, a smile crossing his face when he saw me. "How is it that you make Hogwarts robes look so sexy?"
"1/4 Veela, remember?" I teased, walking over to where he was sitting.
"More like 4/4 completely stunning, Veela or not, as well as funny, intelligent, and witty," He answered as I lowered myself onto his lap, my arms wrapped around his neck and hands resting on his opposite shoulder.
"Mm, charmer," I whispered, pressing a kiss to his cheek and hugging him gently.
"You excited for your first day back?" He asked, resting his hand on my knee as he looked up at me.
"Extremely," I answered. "You know, I'm almost surprised I haven't gotten a letter from my father yet, he always sends a first day letter."
As if on cue, Hermes, my father's owl, came flying through an open window, perching himself on my knee and holding an envelope, as well as a small package.
"Nice timing," George chuckled as I began unwrapping the string around the parchment, smiling when I saw my father's tiny, neat scrawl.
Dearest Britta,
I hope you have a marvelous first day, my darling girl! I can't believe you're a seventh year now, you better stop growing up so bloody fast. In the blink of an eye, I'll be walking you down the aisle at this rate. Anyways, good luck with the new Dark Arts teacher, I heard she's...different. Per se. Enjoy yourself, my girl, you're only young once, and you only realize that when you're old and have a teenager running around in the school where you made all those fond memories.
Enclosed is a little something you left back at you know where, figured you would need it for luck.
I love you, please behave!
Love,
Dad
I turned my attention to the parcel, opening it quickly and smiling when I saw the small pearl ring that had once been my paternal grandmother's that my father had given me when I turned 13. I slipped it on my right hand ring finger quickly before I handed the letter back to Hermes for him to drop off at my room.
