Chantelle's POV

"Do you believe in magic princess?"

There I was standing with a deck of cards in my hands and a top hat on my head in the middle of the streets, right next to a blank canvas with a few markers placed at the side of it for little kids to write with. In front of me stood a pretty little girl dressed up with fairy wings and a princess dress, she looked up at me with eyes filled with innocence as she nodded her head full of anticipation on what I was going to do next. 

I flashed a smile as I bent down to her level before taking off my top hat and placing it on her head instead. She then held onto my hat which was obviously too big for her but she looked like she loved it anyways. I then took out a card from my deck before making it levitate in the air. Her lower jaw dropped slightly as her eyes widened at the sight that she was witnessing, she then stared at the card that was levitating before I dropped the card back down. She flashed a wide smile before speaking sweetly.

"You're the Queen of Hearts."

She had a smile laced onto her face, I tilted my head to the side looking at her curiously as she waddled her way to the blank canvas and doodled the words 'Queen of Hearts' onto it with the markers. I let out a laugh as I placed my arms at her sides to prevent her from falling. As I placed my deck of cards on the ground, I looked at the top of the deck and realized that the card I used to perform the levitation trick was the 'Queen of Hearts' card and then everything clicked.

I looked at my watch, 10.16p.m., it was getting late, I should probably be making my way back home. I placed all of my props into my bag as I stuffed the profits that I've earned into my wallet before carrying the canvas in my hand, it was beautifully decorated by all the kids that came and go today. Another canvas to decorate my house with, however today's canvas seems to be my favorite. I flashed a smile as I remembered the pretty little girl from this morning, 'You're the Queen of Hearts', how interesting, I shook my head as a laugh escaped my lips.

The street that I performed in was right next to a famous casino, that had pretty neon lights flashing every night, well that's what you should expect in the city that never sleeps right? I always wondered what it would feel like to be inside of the casino, I shook my head to dismiss that thought. After seeing drunk men leaving the casino bawling their eyes out and telling me sob stories of how they lost their families every night because of it, I don't think I would ever want to find out. 

As I was walking past the casino, I saw a familiar face sitting on the side of the street smoking a blunt with a vodka in his other hand. Kayden Ares, he's a senior in my college, the guy that seems to have every girl under his spell with his bad boy outlook, I don't blame them, I wasn't even an exception. He has both the brains and brawn, an intelligent prodigy with dashing looks, who wouldn't right? He's also the renowned 'King of Gamblers', which is why it wasn't surprising to see him on the side of the street of a casino.

"Hey, you there."

I heard his husky voice call out, before I looked around to my surroundings, nobody else was here, I then immediately turned around to face him and pointed at myself. I could see that his eyes were glued to the canvas that was in my hands. I flashed a smile as I saw him tilt his head to the side as a smirk slowly surfaced onto his face, he then let out a deep chuckle before he made eye contact with me and nod his head as he saw me pointing at myself. 

"So, Queen of Hearts aye?  I'm the King of Gamblers."

"Aye, King of Gamblers, an honor to finally meet you."

I raised my hand to my head, saluting him as I let out a laugh when he shakes his head disapprovingly and rolled his eyes at me. He then gestured for me to seat beside him, which I did not hesitate to do so. He took the canvas from my hands before scrutinizing it closely. I watched him do so as the ends of my lips unknowingly curved upwards when I witness his eyebrows furrowed.

"This is a divine masterpiece."

"It most definitely is, a pretty little fairy princess drew it for me."

He first nods his head to acknowledge my sentence before taking a gulp from his vodka as he leaned his body back, using his elbows as support from the sidewalk. He turned to look at his watch before he raised an eyebrow and looking back at me. He raised his blunt to his mouth before inhaling it and exhaling a thick layer of smoke.

"So what's a girl like you doing out so late at night? Don't you have school or something tomorrow?"

I was too busy admiring the thick layer of smoke that came out of his mouth, I paid no attention to the words that he uttered. I watched as the smoke came out of his mouth and into the open air. I watch as the smoke slowly floated away as my focus went back onto him. He had a small smile laced on his face. My eyes lit up as I saw the smile on his face before returning a smile back.

"You smoke beautifully."

"Want to see a simple trick Miss Queen of Hearts?"

I nod my head vigorously as I turned my body to face his, I watch as his smile grows bigger before he brought his blunt to his mouth again and gathered smoke in his mouth, his lips then formed into an "o" shape, as he slowly flick his cheeks repeatedly. Smoke rings came out of his mouth in a fixed interval as I watched in awe, my lower jaw dropping slightly. I then clapped my hands to applaud him for his performance as he did a bow.

"That was beautifully done Kayden."

He then raised his eyebrows as he eyed me from head to toe, probably wondering how I knew his name. He then ran his hand through his hair before handing me my canvas back. I took it and held it with both of my hands before mumbling a quick thank you to him as he did so.

"You know my name, so what's yours?"

"Queen of Hearts."
