Kayden's POV
"You told her what? Are you bloody insane Kayden?"
"There was an air of familiarity between the both of us that I just couldn't deny, it was like I could trust her with my life and my secrets, so I did."
Austin was looking at me with wide eyes in disbelief while I had both of my hands placed in my back pockets, leaning my back against our lockers. Austin tilted his head to the side as if deciphering if I was joking with him about the conversation that Chantelle and I had the previous night. I heard the school bell rang indicating to us that we had five minutes to go to our next class. I stretched my arms out and let out a yawn, not ready to start the day off yet.
"You're totally insane, you barely know this kid."
"If she's the reason for me being insane, I'd willingly bid my sanity goodbye."
"You truly are something else, Kayden Ares."
Austin lets out a chuckle as he shook his head in disbelief, walking in front of me to our next class while I flashed a slight smirk, laughing. I stood still to arrange the books in my hand according to the lessons that I had for the day, another yawn escaping my mouth. When I was in the middle of my yawn, I suddenly felt a large frame colliding with my shoulder causing me to drop all of my books. I rolled my eyes and looked up to where the impact came from, my eyes landed on a guy in a black t-shirt with dark denim jeans. He had several visible tattoos showing from below where his black t-shirt covered to the tip of his fingers.
I stared at him hard after my books fell, all scattered over the floor as he looked at me with the biggest smirk on his face. His little group of boys followed behind him like a pack of lost puppies, all of them hung their heads down low after they locked gaze with me. I furrowed my brows as I then locked gaze with the guy that collided into me. He looked down at the books and looked back up at me after.
"Aren't you going to pick your books up?"
"Watch where you're going punk."
"Do you even know who I am?"
"Don't know, don't care, now move it."
I bent down to pick up all of my books before making my way over to my next class. I could see Austin's face turning back to look at me with worry laced in his eyes. I walked past him to go straight to my next class and took a seat in the back row, corner seat, because human interaction was the last thing I wanted after dealing with that imbecile. I kept quiet as I took out the books required for the current lesson. Austin came into class minutes after and took a seat right next to me, I wanted to protest but he just shook his head.
"I'll be quiet, I promise, just let me stay by your side, alright?"
"Alright."

"Now that I'm calm, who the hell was that conceited piece of shit."
"His name's Arsen Elliott."
"And who the hell is he?"
"A new transfer student, he's a freshman, he got kicked out of his previous school because of a huge fight. Oh and I forgot to mention, he's a gang leader too."
I let out a sigh as I ran a hand through my hair, Austin and I made our way to the cafeteria and sat at our usual spot. I noticed Chantelle and her group of friends sitting at the same spot that they were sitting at previously and my mood instantly became better. I flashed a small smile and nudged Austin, gesturing to Chantelle's best friend, trying to tease him. He looked at where I was signalling to as I could see the ends of his lips turn up to form a smile, he looked back at me and winked.
"Will you look at that, your girl's there too and she's looking mighty fine."
"Now, keep your eyes on her best friend or I wouldn't hesitate to beat you up Austin Levi."
I smiled small as I pulled Austin close to me and mumbled in his ear. After I looked back at Chantelle's table, my eyes met hers as she smiled in my direction, I then noticed her waving at me as I winked at her. At this moment, I was feeling a warm fuzzy feeling in my stomach and butterflies fluttering all around, it didn't help that my heart was beating out of my chest. I laughed it off as I went off with Austin to grab lunch.
"You look like you're in a good mood."
"The weather's good today."
"Is it the weather or Chantelle?"
"Maybe both."
I mumbled with a smile on my face as I turned back to look at Chantelle's table once more, only to find Arsen Elliott sitting right beside her, and his group of followers occupying the rest of the tables next to hers. My smile immediately dropped as all of the butterflies in my stomach were replaced by bees stinging at every corner of my body. Austin noticed the change in my emotions and looked back as well.
"Fuck."
He cursed beneath his breath as I couldn't bring myself to look away, my eyes were focused on Chantelle and how she was innocently laughing along with her best friend. My eyes then shifted to look at Arsen, his gaze already on me while flashing a huge smirk as we had a stare down. Only to have him look away in Chantelle's direction and then look back at me with a smug look plastered onto his face. My face not showcasing any sort of emotions as I did not want to concede defeat. I grabbed my tray of food and went back to my table, Austin following behind me with his tray of food.
"How are you feeling buddy?"
"I feel nothing, don't worry."
"You say that you feel nothing, then why does nothing break your heart?"
I immediately looked up to make eye contact with Austin, he had a small smile on his face as he extended his hand to give me a few pats on the back. The ends of my lips turned up to form a smile as I let out a chuckle, shaking my head. No words could ever express how grateful I am to have Austin in my life, he knows me better than anybody else and he is truly my best friend. I know he'll always have my back just like how I'll always have his.
"To be honest, I'm really afraid to feel happy because it never lasts."
I confessed as I felt a huge weight on my shoulders being lifted after I expressed the honest truth about my feelings that I have suppressed for so long. I let out a sigh of relieve as I took some fries and tossed them into my mouth, stuffing my face with the food in front of me, in hopes that food wouldn't let me down. I noticed Austin signalling for me to look behind, but I was too busy stuffing my face with food.
At this moment, I felt a tap on my shoulder and heard a familiar giggle, my eyes widened as I recognised that laugh. I immediately turn around only to be face to face with Chantelle. I immediately swallowed the food in my mouth and took a sip of my drink, wiping my face with a napkin. She smiled at me before taking another napkin and helping me clean my mouth.
"You missed a spot."
I smiled softly at her as I admired her beautiful features under the bright lights of the cafeteria, I could hear Austin's teasing from behind me as I turned back to send him a death stare, signalling him to shut up. He immediately toned down his teasing as I heard the same giggle again. I looked back at Chantelle and laughed along with her. She mumbled a plan into my ears before I mumbled something back softly and gestured for her to tell it to Austin. Both of us were going to hatch an elaborate plan to get both of our best friends to date, we'll see how this goes.
"That beautiful lady over there, her name's Acacia Katherine."
