CHAPTER 11 (EDITED)
PURE BLISS.
That was the only way to describe how I felt as I lay on one of the chaise lounges on the beach. Sure, the sun was blinding, but it was just what I needed to get a tan. It was impossible on our room's balcony, unfortunately, because of the tree's shade.
Even without actively trying to, I could hear the people on the beach enjoying themselves, whether it be in the water or outside. There was no spot untouched. Even the space where we had our party was occupied once people realized that they could actually walk past a huge rock.
Suddenly, the sunlight was blocked from my eyes with a shadow looming over me.
I took off my sunglasses and sat up trying to adjust to the bright light.
Once my eyes were focused, I found myself looking at a guy smiling in amusement at me. A good-looking one. He was dressed only in shorts, leaving his naturally tanned chiselled abs on full display.
Without my sunglasses, I had no cover as I shamelessly checked him out. From the smile etched on his face, he knew what I was doing.
Control your hormones, Charlotte.
"Can I help you?" I asked, looking at his sea blue eyes so similar to mine. He was the ultimate beach boy package finished with sandy blonde hair.
If only it weren't my best friend's wedding, I would get me some of that...
"Sorry. Forgive me for intruding but I couldn't help but notice that a beautiful woman was all by herself. I thought I'd give you some company," I had trouble focusing on his exact words because I was stuck on his Australian accent.
I smirked once he was done,
"Smooth. But, I'm alone by choice."
His eyes widened a little when he realized I was rejecting his company. From the look on his face and, well, his face, I could tell he was not one that was subjected to that often.
"And hey, if you really want to cure someone's loneliness— the guy over there could surely use some company!" I pointed to a man, probably in his late 40s, that was sitting on the sand staring at the sea with a gloomy expression on his face.
He laughed and nodded his head in understanding.
"Alright, you caught me. I was sent here by my stupid friends who didn't believe I could talk to you, not because I love to 'cure loneliness' as you put it."
I looked around to navigate his friends and saw a group of guys not too far away looking our way and laughing. They all looked like they had just walked out of an Abercrombie commercial.
Why would they think someone as hot as him would not be able to talk to some random girl on the beach?
"Well, you talked to me," I gave him a thumbs up.
I did not need a distraction during our short stay. If I was here on vacation, I wouldn't mind but I wasn't and I definitely did not need to get attached to someone who probably lived on the other end of the world.
I began to resume my position on the chair before he extended his left hand,
"I'm Hugo."
I stifled a giggle.
"Hugo? Like, Hugo Boss?"
When I saw the sour expression on his face, I couldn't stop the laughter.
"You have a pretty smile. Tugs something right here," Hugo said and pointed to his heart.
It was cheesy and I was sure he'd said it to numerous other girls before. But, I couldn't help think back to when Ethan had said that, too. I guess my resting bitch face was horrendous if everyone felt the need to compliment my smile.
