I opened the door to two people. One man, one woman standing in black uniforms with their hats under their arms. They both had badges attached to their uniforms resting on their chests. They were the police.

"Hello" I greeted cautiously

"Hi madam. Is this the residence of Nikki Sampson?"

"Yes it is, is there a problem officer?" at this point, Jace had joined me at the door.

"It is with great regret that I tell you this but Miss Sampson has passed away."

My mouth dropped. I put my hand over my mouth and started shaking my head. I couldn't comprehend it. I started saying no, slowly getting louder. I ran to the bath room to throw up. I sat up and cried, and cried, and cried. I think I had been in the bathroom 5 minutes before Jace came to see me. He sat down next to me and started hugging me. He was bawling his eyes out too. He took a deep breath and spoke.

"I know this is beyond terrible but the police would like to keep speaking to us. Come on" He soothed me and guided me to the dining table where the two police were waiting for us. I sat down and snatched the box of tissues from the middle of the table. I composed myself before looking at the police.

"What happened?" Jace asked. There's no way I'd be able to speak.

"Miss Sampson was involved in a crash. An intoxicated driver was speeding 20miles above the limit and swerved onto the other side of the road head on into Miss Sampson. She died instantly" The female police officer explained.

I cried again as did Jace.

"What happens now?" I asked

"We want to release Miss Sampson's body to you once the funeral arrangements have been made. The driver will be charged with dangerous driving causing death and the case will be taken to court"

"Are there any other questions?" Jace asked

"Only one, can we please have the numbers of Miss Sampson's next of kin?"

Jace grabbed a piece of paper and wrote down the numbers. The policeman handed us a card with his number on it and they both left. I left the table and walked to Nikki's bedroom. I stood at the doorway, leaning on the frame. I looked around the room. It was a mess like usual, she thought she'd be coming home. I walked into her wardrobe and grabbed one of her jackets. I put it on and walked out to her bed. I saw the bear I gave her for her 20th birthday sitting in front of her pillows. I picked it up and hugged it. It smelled like her perfume. I sat down on the floor, my back against her bed. I cuddled the teddy bear and just started crying again. I picked up my phone to call Liam. I clicked the call button and let it ring but when he answered, the words wouldn't come out. I just cried.

"Kyla, babe what's wrong?" Liam asked worried but I still couldn't say anything.

"Ok where are you? I'll come get you" Liam asked and I could hear noises in the background so I assumed he was getting his keys.

"Nikki...." That's all I could make out.

"Ok babe, I'm coming now. I'll be there as soon as I can"

True to his words Liam showed up in 5 minutes which means he was speeding. He walked into Nikki's room and saw me bawling my eyes out. He didn't say a word as he sat down next to me. I leaned into him, still crying and clutching the teddy bear. He wrapped his arms around me and stroked my back. We sat there until it was 6pm. I had stopped crying, the tears finally dried up. I picked up my phone and sent Jace a message. He replied quickly and I started to stand up. Liam looked at me weirdly not sure of what I was doing. He still didn't know what was going on. I held out my hand.

"We are going for a walk" I said, dragging him up.

I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and we left the house.

We were walking for 20 minutes until we reached our destination. I don't know what made me come here but I felt that I needed to see it for myself. I looked at the road covered in broken glass, metal scraps and blood. I walked over to a nearby post and leaned the paper on it. I began writing a note to Nikki, telling her how much she will be missed. I folded it in half and tucked it into the dirt at the bottom of the pole. I turned back around and Liam came over and engulfed me in his arms.

"She's gone Liam. I never got to see her again. She'll never meet the baby. This shouldn't have happened. She should still be here" I whispered to Liam and crying into his chest.

"I'm sorry Kyla. She'll be watching from up there I promise you" He said before kissing my forehead.

I finally had the greatest parts of my life back together again and now that's been all taken away from me.... again.
