It was quiet in the kitchen a moment as Mrs. Weasley set the table, despite their offer to help. Only when a loud banging from above them made Kathryne jump did anyone speak.
"That's Fred and George," Mrs. Weasley shook her head. "They are a bit noisy.
"Mum!" A voice yelled from upstairs.
"Are we still going to Diagon Alley today?!" Another voice shouted.
The girls looked back to Mrs. Wesley who was glaring at the top of the stairs. "Noisy indeed."
"What's Dragon Alley?" Kathryne asked as she pulled apart pieces of a cinnamon roll. The steam that rose from it made Kathryne shiver. She loved cinnamon rolls.
Mrs Weasley smiled again and turned back to the stove. "Not dragon alley, Diagon Alley," she corrected. "That's a french accent, isn't it? It's lovely. Oh, but Diagon Alley is where wizards get their supplies. Everything from potion ingredients to school uniforms. Speaking of which!" Mrs. Weasley handed each of them a envelope and a key. "This is your hogwarts acceptance letter, and your key for your vault in the bank. Do not lose it, it is very important."
As the girls set the keys on the table and began to open the letters, two boys with hair just as red as Mrs. Weasley's made their way into the kitchen and took seats across from the girls. Alex recognized them from the spoon on the clock, twins, like she and Kathryne.
"You didn't tell us-" one began.
"That we had guests." Finished the second.
"They arrived this morning with Professor Dumbledore," Mrs. Weasley stated, "And yes, we will be going to Diagon Alley once your father gets home." As she placed a plate of bacon on the table, she smiled to us. "Kathryne and Alexandra Lestrange, meet Fred and George Weasley."
"Bonjour, c'est agréable de vous rencontrer," Kathryne stated easily as she read down the list as best she could. English was not her first language, and she often forgot when she needed to speak it. Especially when she was focused on something else, like trying to read.
Alex smiled and nudged Kathryne with her elbow. "She means that it's a pleasure," she said where Kathryne realized the situation and blushed. She was careful to keep her hair or eyes from changing, however. "I'm Alex, and that's Kathryne."
Mrs. Weasley handed the boys each an envelope as well. "Dumbledore brought your letters as well."
The boys faked a gasp. "Oh good."
"I almost believed-"
"We weren't going this year." They finished together.
"You've been before?" Kathryne asked, dropping her cinnamon roll piece into her plate. "You've already gone?"
Fred shook his head. "No, but our brothers Bill and Charlie have," he said as George nodded with bacon in his mouth. "This will be our first year."
Alex, who had been entranced by the list in her hand, turned her attention to the conversation. "Is it really a castle? Professor Dumbledore said it was in a big castle."
"It's a castle alright," George cut in. "So big you get lost on your way to classes."
"We can't have a... uh..." she looked back to Alex. "That, uh, paper with the directions."
"A map?" Mrs. Weasley tried from the stove top.
"Yes! We can't have a map?" Kathryne asked.
