Chapter 12
A/N: So this chapter was cute yet awkward to write at the same time... You'll see what I mean. It's also a little bit of a filler, so sorry if you don't like chapters like this : /
Everyone is rushing around trying to get all of our stuff together. Mary is yelling commands at the crew, Mark and Bennet are following the orders along with everyone else, and I'm trying my best to just stay out of everyone's way. Now don't get me wrong, I would love to help, but I'm so clumsy I'm afraid I'll screw something up. "Bennet, Mark, lads come 'ere." Mary calls, and they come jogging towards us. "Bennet, are ye coming with us?" She asks, and Bennet looks at Mark. Mark shrugs, so Bennet says "I need to get away from Nassau for a little. If you wouldn't mind me coming with you." Mary looks at him like he's grown another head, "Of course I don't mind lad! But I was thinking since Mark, ye knows how to sail a ship and Bennet, since ye know a lot about ships, ye could sail at night. Usually we put down anchor or I 'ave Anne take over for me, but this would make it so we have two captains and quartermasters. This way, we can get to Tulum and away from the bloody Templars as soon as possible." Mary says, making eye contact with Mark and Bennet. "That sounds fine to me. What about you Bennet?" Mark says, looking at Bennet. "Aye. Sounds good." They walk off, and I turn to look at Mary.
"So where will we be sleeping?" I ask, grabbing Mary's hand. "I'll clear a private space for Mark and Bennet down in the crew's quarters, and ye'll be staying in my cabin." Mary says, smirking and winking at me. I blush but laugh, and just as I'm about to say something, Anne comes up behind us. "Where would ye like Ms. Jane's belongings capt'n?" Anne asks Mary, smirking a little. "Put 'em in my cabin." She says. "You two better behave." Anne jokes, laughing at Mary and I's reaction.
"Captain! We're ready to set sail!" I hear Anne shout, almost two hours later. I had gotten bored and gone into Mary's cabin to lay down and think things over. My parents were assassins. Mary is an assassin. Evelyn was killed by people called Templars. They are now hunting the rest of my family down. I am going with Mary to a place called Tulum to train. I don't even know why I'm training, or what this 'training' will consist of. My world has changed within a matter of minutes, and I am still trying to process it all.
"Okay lads! Give 'er all you got!" Mary shouts, and I can feel that we start to move. It's not my first time on a ship, and I actually find it very exciting. The knowledge that there's no solid land underneath the wood is thrilling, and when you're on deck the feeling and sight of the ocean. I love how you are surrounded by water, and the smell of the sea. Even in the cabin, I can still faintly smell the saltiness in the air. I'm laying down facing the wall opposite the door, and I hear a knock on the door. "Come in!" I shout, turning around and sitting up so I can see who it is. Mary walks in, and comes to sit next to me on the bed. "Shouldn't you be at the helm steering the ship?" I ask, kissing her cheek while she wraps her arms around me. "Anne is taking over for a little, I wanted to check on ye." She says. "So how are ya holding up?" She asks, resting her head on top of mine. "Okay, I guess. It's just a lot of information to take in all at once." I say. She makes a sound of agreement, and she shifts us so we're laying down. We just lay there for several minutes, until I look up at her, and attach our lips. I need to do something besides just sit in silence. If it's silent and still, I can worry myself about the future.
Our lips move together, and I breathe in the scent that's come to comfort me. Mary smells like the ocean, rum, and rosemary. She has her 'James' clothes back on, and so I pull on her jacket. With my help, she shrugs it off and we continue to make out. She moves from kissing my lips to my neck, and I try so hard to not make any noises. But when she moves to my pulse point and sucks lightly, there's no way to restrain myself from letting out a soft moan. When I do this, she looks at me, and smirks that cheeky smirk of hers. She goes back to the spot, and kisses and sucks. I know that it's going to leave a mark, but at the moment I couldn't care less. I let out a series of moans and curse words, and she giggles against my neck. I pull her back up to my lips, and after a few minutes of kissing it's my turn to kiss Mary's neck. I switch between rougher nips and sweet kisses all down her neck. Her neck now has matching marks. Once I accidentally nip too hard, and she just whispers "Shite Jane." I sit up a little and look into her eyes. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to it was a little hard and I'm-" I stop in the middle of my sentence because she's looking at me almost embarrassed. "I didn't say 'shite' because it hurt. It felt... kinda...really....good." She sighs out, and I pull her back into a kiss.
After a while of this, we finally pull away because Mary needs to get back to captaining the ship. "Do you have to go back out there? You could just stay in here with me..." I say seductively, so I don't have to go and interact with other humans. "I really do have to go. And ye're coming with me." She says, pulling us up.
When she sits up, I look at her neck and blush furiously. I hadn't realized how many and how dark some of the marks I left on her neck were, and now we have to go outside in front of the whole crew. We both fix our hair and retie our bandanas, and then I look into the mirror. Our necks match, and again I'm dreading going outside. "Mary! Do you see this?! What is everyone going to say?" I ask her, groaning and putting my head in my hands. She comes up behind me, chuckling. "It'll be fine love. If it really bothers ye, tie yer bandana around your neck as a scarf." She tells me, still laughing a little. After a minute or so, I start to laugh too.
"Would ye like to come and help me steer the ship?" Mary asks me, while putting her coat back on. "What do you mean?" I ask, a little confused. "Ye will hold the wheel and help me steer. Don't worry- I'll stand behind ye hand hold yer arms." Mary tells me, grabbing my hand. "Okay, that sounds cool." I say, and we walk out the door.
We walk to the helm of the ship, and Anne notices Mary and I right away. Almost instantly, she starts laughing. I'm guessing she notices the marks left by me and Mary on each other, and I blush again. I hate that I get embarrassed so easily, it just leads to more embarrassing moments when my cheeks turn pink or red. "So what were ye two doing in there?" She asks, raising her eyebrows. "Nothing." I say quickly. Anne laughs and she and Mary switch places. Mary motions for me to follow her, so I do. She puts my hands on the correct position on the wheel, and wraps her arms around me, keeping her hands on top of mine. It's a really new feeling, being mostly in control of something as large as the ship. While steering, Mary whispers things in my ear about how to sail a ship. "Ye just have to keep 'er steady." Mary also shouts things to the crew, which I'm assuming is about the position of the sails. Finally, the sun starts to set and I give full control of the ship back to Mary. "That was fun." I say, giving her a quick, chaste kiss.
I walk around the deck for a little, and decide to climb up to the crow's nest. The sun is just peeking out from behind the horizon line, and the sky is a painted picture of purples and oranges. I sigh and shiver a little bit, because it's really cold up here. I hear someone climbing up, and I look over and see Mark hoisting himself up. "I brought you a blanket." He says, handing it to me. "Thanks." I respond while wrapping myself in the blanket. He sits next to me, and I lean my head on his shoulder. He sees my neck and has a look on his face that's a mixture between an overprotective scowl and a humorous smirk, but doesn't say anything. "Today was.... Eventful." I say, and he just laughs. "Yeah, I guess that's one word to describe it." He tells me. "Do you think we'll be okay? All of us?" I whisper, my forehead against his shoulder. "I hope so Janey, I hope so."
Mark and I sit there for a while, and I think I doze off for a bit. The next thing I remember is being shaken awake by Mark. "Jane, I'm going to switch places with James at the helm. I bet you'll be a lot more comfortable in bed. But no funny business. I'll be sure to let James know what will happen to him if he lays a finger on you." Mark tells me in a serious tone, and I just nod. I get up and slowly and carefully make my way down to the main deck. When my feet hit the ground, I feel strong and warm arms wrap around me. I hear a calm and familiar voice whisper in my ear. "Let's go to bed love." Mary says, and I relax in her arms. "Yeah." I say as we start walking to her- I mean our- cabin. We walk straight to the bed, and as soon as my back hits the bed I'm out like a light.
A/N: So because next week is spring break for me I may not be able to update.... I'M SORRY! I just wanted to let you know ahead of time.
