A/N: I AM A TERRIBLE HUMAN! I AM SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING IN LIKE A MONTH!!!!! I would tell you all the reasons why but those would just be excuses, so instead I'm just going to apologize. Just so you know: After this chapter is posted I am going to be taking a very short hiatus. With finals and exams and stuff coming up I don't have time to write + update. But here's this chapter (sorry it's super short), and I will post whenever I can. <3
I wake up to the sound of the crew bustling about outside, and the smell of the ocean. I yawn and stretch, pulling the covers off. Mary must already be at the helm, and today I'm in no rush to do anything. Usually at this time I would already be up and working at the shop, but I guess I won't be doing that any time soon. I see that I'm just in my blouse and undergarments, so Mary must have undressed me so I would be more comfortable. I blush at the thought, and then shake my head and smile. I go find my bag in the corner of the room and open it, only to find it's empty. "That's odd." I mummer, and look around. I go over to Mary's dresser in hopes to find something to wear so I could go out and ask where my clothes were put, only to find that my clothes had been unpacked and put in with Mary's, or should I say James', clothes. I swear the crew and Anne are too sweet. I pull on some tan trousers and a crimson blouse. I look in the mirror, and my boy-short hair has grown out quite a bit since I last had it cut. I also look tired, though I felt like I slept well.
I walk out of the cabin and start making my way to the helm. On the brief walk, I smile and nod at the crew members who make eye contact with me, and even get a few "good mornings". Mary sees me coming and smiles. I make my way to stand next to her, on the opposite side of Anne. "Mornin' lovely. How'd ye sleep?" Mary asks me, keeping her eyes on the waves. "Okay, I guess. What about you?" I say, and Mary just nods, "Good because ye were with me." She tells me, looking at me and winking. "And you Anne, how was your night?" I ask, peering over Mary at Anne. "Just fine, thank ye. So Captn', what route are we takin' to Tulum?" Anne asks. "We're gonna make our way through the open ocean for about 2-3 weeks, and sail until we get to Cape Bonavista. We will make a stop for two days before we set sail again. From there we'll sail for about another week or so, then we will reach Tulum." Mary says, and I'm glad it isn't TOO long of a journey. Getting from France to Nassau took almost three months. "Sounds good to me." I say, looking around. "So what can I do to help?" I ask Mary, not wanting to be rude or be a burden. "Love, ye can do whatever ye want. Ye are a guest on the ship, not some kinda prisoner. Though, I know the crew wouldn't complain if ye wanted to help out around the ship." Mary tells me, and I go to help.
A few hours later, I hear one of the crew members shout out to Mary. "Oi! A cargo ship captain! Looks like she's a brig, some easy loot. Shall we fire?" I look to Mary to see her response, and she's looking at the man like he's crazy. "Lad, do ye really think I would put Jane and 'er brother's lives on the line? They're not used to the pirate lifestyle, attacking a ship would just put them in danger. Plus, I wanna get to Tulum as soon as possible." Mary tells the crew member, and he just nods. Hearing this, I walk over to Mary. "Love, you don't have to stop plundering and pirating just because I'm with you. I can handle myself." I tell her, mostly because I would feel bad if she had to stop working just because I was there. "I wouldn't want to ever put ye in a situation where there was a possibility ye would get hurt. Don' worry darling, I have enough loot to comfortably live out the rest of my life, a week or two not sinking a ship won't hurt me at all." Mary tells me. She then gestures to Anne to come over, and gives control of the ship to her. Mary laces her fingers with mine, and drags me below the crows' nest. Mary pulls herself up, and gestures for me to do the same.
Once we're settled high above the ocean, I take another look around. Even though I was up here last night, it still takes my breath away with its beauty. I glance over at Mary, and she looks breathtaking with the wind blowing her hair around her face. I've come to care for her so much in what would be looked at as a short amount of time, and I'm so glad I have. I wrap my arms around Mary, and rest my head on top of hers. "I love you." I whisper into her hair. I didn't even think about it, but once I realize this is what I said, I blush. "I love you too, Janey." Mary says, looking up at me, with a mischievous smirk on her face. "You know I hate being called that!" I say, laughing. I slap her on the arm, and she mutters, "Jerk..." I then kiss her, and when I pull away I say, "Bitch." And smile the most innocent smile you've ever seen. (AN: Anyone get the reference?) "Profanity!" Mary yells, and we laugh. "I gotta get back to captaining. Join me?" Mary offers me her hand, and we make our way down.
