Chapter 21: Spirits Come Out to Play

Authors Note: Just want to post a thank you to those of you voting!

Also, while editing these two chapters, I was almost tempted to rewrite them entirely, because I feel like they suck, lol. But it would be a lot of work considering I have 90 plus chapters up on the other two sites.

Anyway, hope you enjoy this update, even though it's small.

Chapter 21: Spirits Come Out to Play

Alicia's Point of View

I had reached the first floor and I was now slowly walking down the hall toward room 109.

Just as I neared the threshold to the room, I heard the PX device "speak".

The PX device is a tool used to allow spirits to verbally communicate. The theory is that spirits may be able to change the environment, which in turn may produce the proper words within the built-in dictionary of over 2000 words. When a word is chosen, it is displayed on a small screen on the device, as well as spoken aloud in a computerized voice.

Hearing the PX device speak caused me and to jump.

I hoped I would get used to sudden noises – at least as much as you can get used to sudden noises- so that I wouldn't be so jumpy on investigations.

The PX device spoke again, and this time I heard it clearly.

It had said "Hi".

I stayed still as possible while I slowly unhooked my walkie talkie from my waist.

"Billy?" I asked, speaking into it.

"What's up?" Billy responded.

"Was the PX speaking at all before now?" I asked.

"No, that's the first time we've heard it say anything all night," Billy replied.

"Alright, thanks," I answered, hooking the walkie talkie back onto my belt.

I turned off my flashlight and put it back in my pocket, relying only on my camera's night vision mode.

I took some quiet steps until I was standing in the doorway, and panned the room using the camera.

Everything was the same as we had left it earlier.

"Elizabeth? Was that you saying 'hi'?" I asked.

"Hi", the PX device spoke again.

Woah...

I felt goosebumps form along the length of my arms.

"Hello Elizabeth," I said. "I've heard so much about you," I added.

"Zak", the PX device spoke.

I was shocked.

"Yes, Zak is here too. We brought you some flowers, do you like them?" I asked, keeping my camera steady on the flowers.

"Zak"..."loving"..."words", the PX device spoke.

Holy shit, this is really happening...

I smiled.

"Yes, Zak used loving words. You are beautiful, sweet and caring," I replied, remembering the words Zak had used from a previous investigation.

"Enter"..."Sit", the PX device spoke again.

Oh great, this is like a horror movie, I couldn't help but think.

Regardless of my thoughts, I walked into the room, being careful not to bump the static x-camera already setup in the room.

I decided to set my camera down in the back right corner of the room, aiming at the doorway. This way, it was covering parts of the room that the static x-camera wasn't.
