I awoke to birds chirping beside my window sill.
I bolted upright, a gigantic smile on my face. Today was an important day of days; and everything had to be absolutely perfect.. no ifs, ands or buts.
I jumped out of my bed and into the shower, and within minutes I was prancing back to my walk in closet, where I had yet to choose my important outfit for this significant day. I peered around the inside of my walk in closet, eyeing shelves on shelves of flowy summer clothing, when my gaze landed on a dress I had bought earlier in the year but never really cared to wear it.
I grabbed it off it's hanger; it was tan satin, with an eyelet pattern lace around the bottom trim and had a sweetheart neckline with removeable straps. It was perfect. I slipped quickly into the dress and decided to accessorize. I finished off the outfit with a pair of baby pink gladiators and a bright turquoise rock necklace. I slowly made my way towards the full body mirror.
I gave a twirl, then squealed with excitement. I looked perfect, magnificent to say the least. There was no way anyone could mess with my amazing mood today whatsoever. I grabbed my posters and headed down to have a quick bite to eat before I left for school.
As I drove down the freeway, one thought raced across my mind over and over again. Kay Hall, for Student Body President. You guessed it. It was the start of campaign day... official campaign day. But hey, the early bird gets the worm right?
By the time I arrived at school, barely anyone was there, including the teachers. I set out for the center of campus, posting my posters, and then would work my way out and around the giant highschool. I never really cared for anyone to do this process with me, seeing as everything had to be perfect and as much as I appreciated it, their help never was up to my satisfaction.
By the time 830 rolled around, I was in the front foyer handing out candies, a huge smile on my face, repeating "Vote Caydence Hall for President! Vote Caydence Hall for President!". Most people accepted the candies with a smile and a nod, but some even came up to me and asked what my hopes and goals for this year would be. I would explain politely, understanding they probably didn't know that all of the competitors would make a speech at lunch today explaining just that.
All too soon, the warning bell rang that class was to start in five minutes. I rushed off towards my locker to put away my campaigning materials and grab my English books.
DING DING DING went the final bell. Damn.. gonna be late.
I rounded the last corner and I could see my classroom in sight. Tunnel vision kicked in and the only thing I could hear down the hallway was the click of the tiny wedge on my gladiators, when suddenly a voice from beside me spoke.
''Caydence Hall?''.
I came to an abrupt stop and faced whoever was talking to me. And to say I was surprised was an understatement.
I was staring at the boy with the black hair and the lip piercing, whatever his name was. It took me a few seconds to gather my thoughts, to realize this boy was even talking to me. I wouldn't have realized it was even him, if I hadn't actually looked at him. His voice was so incredibly smooth, and slick like melted chocolate. It was deep too.. perfect.
''Uh.. yeah that's me'' I said, a bit dumbfounded.
''My name's Kane, the pleasure is yours'' he smiled and winked a small wink, and I laughed a little uncomfortably.
''Where you planning on going to class anytime soon?'' he asked, gesturing towards the door. While I had been awestruck this nobody came out of the blue and named me, in the middle of a dead hallway, then proceeded to wink at me, like I was in his league, I had forgotten all thoughts of being tardy.
''Well yes I was on my way actually'' I said as I turned and began for the door. I reached out to put my hand on the knob when out of nowhere a hand was placed on it. I turned to see Kane staring right at me, and that was the first time I got a look into his eyes.
It was like staring into an endless ocean, the clear sparkling blue, and the sun coming just over the horizon with the flecks of yellow that shone beside his pupils. I could look into his eyes and see a story; beginning middle and end. It was like nothing I had ever seen previously. Before I knew it flecks of purples washed into his eyes; shades of mauve and a dark magenta. I blinked a few times and in the time it had taken me to spot the curious flashes, they were gone.
I lowered my gaze and let him open the door for me, and into the classroom we walked.
''Would you care to explain the reason why you were late, Ms. Hall?'' Ms. succumb looked at me through her bright hazel eyes.
''I was just finishing putting some campaign material away'' I answered lightly, making my way towards my seat.
''And you, Kane?'' she questioned.
''I helped Kay put away her campaign material''
''Is this true, Caydence?''
''Yes..umm I had quite a bit actually'' I lied through my teeth. As Kane made his way towards his desk. just in front of mine, he shot me a quick thankful smile. I returned it with a small, tight lipped one.
The lunch bell rang and with relief I made my way to my locker, preparing for my upcoming speech. I was stoked to see a little surprise waiting there for me.
Jobe was leaning against my locker, a cute half smile graced his adorable face. I bit my lip, forcing myself not to fall into a giggle fit. I was so lucky.
As soon as I was in arms reach he grabbed my waist and flung me again the lockers, his forehead pressed to mine, our eyes deadlocked. He moved his lips closer to mine, and just when our skin brushed I turned away, facing the cold hard metal.
''AH, CMON KAY!'' He let out a frustrated chuckle. I giggled as I felt his arms wrap around my hips, his head resting on my shoulder.
''You can get some after I make my speech... if you vote for me'' I turned to him, feeling a seductive smile creep up my face with the bribe I had just made.
''Deal.. I guess'' he shrugged and nodded, then suddenly pinned me to the lockers again, this time my arms on either side so I couldn't escape.
''HELP!!!'' I mocked screamed, as Jobe's face was closing in on mine. Right when he got close enough to vulnerability, I whispered a quick gotta go and raced towards the cafetorium, free of his embrace. I could feel his eyes burning into me as I walked down the hallway, along with everyone else. But that's the way it always was.
