I was standing at the orphanage gate with a small duffel bag of clothes, quite a lot earlier than what the magical woman had told me to. I had not slept at all last night, poring over the thought that whether my life was about to take a new, and not strange turn. True, I was not a celebrity or something to have something new to do everyday, but out of the blue things often happened around me. No one blamed me or ever found out, for I had this unique ability of not leaving a single trace of my doings. I possessed this gift from the time I was a scrawny little kid of eight.
It all began when this fair- skinned stupid little girl called Mabel or Melissa had flung sand at my face in nursery school, yelling racist slurs at me. I still vividly remembered the anger that had surged in my heart that day, and I wished that the branch on the tree above us would fall on her thick head and break it. And just me wishing it seemed to do the trick. A cold, piercing wind swept past, and a huge branch fell right on top of the racist girl with a crack. Ouch. Must have hurt her quite a bit, I thought as my feelings of triumph were quickly disparaged by sheer guilt. But none of it was blamed on me, coz I technically hadn't hurt the girl but just wishing it made me feel guilty. I still felt so today.
It took me quite a while to notice yesterday's woman standing right in front of me. I didn't know what to say to her, so I merely smiled, which she mimicked.
"Ready to go now? " she asked, while staring intently at me.
" OK, but can you tell me who you are?, I asked, suddenly doubting my trust on her.
" I'm Ramonia Wellson Aulis, your aunt, your mother's sister. This was what I meant to tell you yesterday at the big bungalow out there, before the Muggle girl came barging in. I'm a Silvern witch from the Noble and Silvern House of Aulis, to which you belong. As your mother has a Silvern core and your dad has a Golden one, you are a rare witch. You have a Bronze core," she said and stopped abruptly, and squinted into the clearing, when suddenly, out of nowhere, some young men and women appeared with a faint 'pop'. Ramonia abandoned me as she went to hug those people who'd just materialised. After they finished their hugging episode they slowly came towards me and stood around me, forming a neat semicircle around me, including Ramonia. There were nine of them, four men and five women. All of them possessed a powerful aura not unlike Ramonia.
" Aria, remember me speaking about a security squad in the morn? Well, these are the heirs to the other Metal cored wizarding families. This is Linea Carmenia, of the Noble and Ancient Silvern House of Carmenia," she said, pointing to a olive skinned girl, whose skin was not unlike mine. She was short, with russet hair and emerald eyes like mine, which clashed in a lovely way with her skin tone. The next witch introduced herself as Cubia Lavasieur, of the Lavasieur House of Gold. Then I was introduced to Kerli Caprune of the Caprune House of Silver, a cute but scruffy cat- eyed witch; to Carat Dupleh of The Ancient and Golden House of Dupleh, who looked too old for a nineteen year old witch and had calloused skin; to Wilteria Regyn of the Regyn House and to Hades Tresstreee, Shaklen Vuldronovitch, Kassiam Sadrin and Truby Aulis of reputed Metal Houses, who didn't appeal to me as much as Linea, Kerli and Cubia did. After the cosy little gathering cum introduction we decided to go. All this time I was unusually silent, watching the world go by, nodding to every Ramonia asked to do.
I was made to sit on Ramonia's broomstick behind Ramonia, my luggage was with Linea and Truby gave me a red velvet cloak.
"Where to?" yelled Shaklen.
