Chapter 2: Foreseen Horizons

Annmarie and Artemis rode in the Bentley towards the harbour where they would be meeting Yersuit to collect Artemis's order. They had reached a consent that it was a suitable place to meet. Angeline had been more than happy to oblige to watching Ellie while the two went into town.

Annmarie was happy enough sitting in the passenger seat listening to her podcasts. Her most recent addiction was a comedy called "Welcome To Night Vale". It was a little dark and very strange but still very entertaining and probably Annmarie's favourite thing to listen to. Artemis had listened to the Pilot and second episode "Glow Cloud" and had to agree that the deranged newscast was quite entertaining.

"Your throwing it in the trunk, right?" Annmarie asked Artemis.

"Yes. It shouldn't take more than about ten minutes to load safely. I'll take the parcels back to the Bentley and then return to pay him, then were off. Simple as that."

"Right." Annmarie said. "Now tell me why I don't believe you?"

"Why wouldn't you believe me? Just look at this face. Who on earth could you trust more than me?"

"The hooded figures in the dog park."

"That's a thought crime."

"You use writing utensils. That's even more of a crime."

"Well, I'm a criminal. I suppose you'll just have to get used to that."

"How unexpected. I could not have ever been prepared for that."

"Well now that's just unfortunate."

"Sure is."

They reached the harbour and pulled into a parking spot not too far from the meeting point. They opened the car doors and exited, proceeding to the wooden dock walkway and continuing on. The water splashed against the wooden supports and the boards creaked with age. A gentle and cool breeze blew over the two and a few gray clouds loomed over in the sky. A little ways away they could see a figure waiting by a van, leaning against the back of the vehicle.

They reached the man and he stopped leaning, getting up to greet his customer and the guest he had brought along.

"Yersuit." Artemis greeted. "I trust you have as I ordered?"

"Of coarse, Mister-"

"Master."

"Master Fowl. I have everything here." He handed his Artemis two, small, carefully packaged orders. "You take them, then return with my cash."

"But of coarse." Artemis said. He took the packages and proceeded back to the Bentley. "I'll only be a moment." He said, walking off.

"And you are?" Yersuit asked, addressing Annmarie.

"Mrs Fowl." Annmarie replied.

"Oh, no. I forgot to give him the flint!" Yersuit exclaimed. He ran up to the front of the van, popping the back. He returned, grabbing a small cloth bag. "You really must see this, it's amazing stuff!" Yersuit said, unfolding the package.

"Rea-" Annmarie tried to say, but found it entirely impossible as Yersuit was shoving the cloth down her throat. She tried to bite, kick, hit, and scream but before she could she felt a blunt object smack her head, and as she blacked out saw only a man loading her into the back of a van, and shutting the trunk door quickly.

Artemis closed the trunk. He had realized Yersuit forgot the flint, and would probably give it to him when he returned. He began walking back on the dock towards the meeting spot, leafing through the cash he had. He looked up briefly and noticed there were no figures at the end of the dock. And no van either. In fact there was nothing.

Artemis stuffed the money back into his pocket and walked over to the area briskly. He saw a drop or two of blood, and had the immediate urge to start panicking. But he didn't.

He looked over the area for any materials, but there was nothing. Not even a boot print.

He ran back to the Bentley, not that he made it far, and when he got there threw open the door and slammed it shut. He put the car into gear and pulled out, then began speeding off back the exit road, back to the manor. He knew he would have something in his database. Or his name was not Artemis Fowl The Second.
