Chapter 8

(Not the typical first date)

Tori stood in her living room feeling a bit nervous. Today was her first date with River and he hadn’t given her any clue as to where they were going or what they were doing. He’d simply told her to wear jeans and a comfortable top and her hiking boots. The only clue he’d given is it was possible she could get a little dirty.

“Tori stop pacing.” The blonde woman stopped and looked over at her rather amused father. If he hadn’t have said anything the blonde woman wouldn’t have realized she’d even been pacing. “I don’t know why you’re so anxious. The decision is made. This is just a chance to get to know each other better.”

“I am not…” Seeing the man cock his head to the side she stopped. “He didn’t tell me anything! I don’t like not knowing what’s going on!”

Warner internally smirked. Tori, was so much his daughter. His enforcer need to know everything had passed to her. “Try to relax and enjoy yourself.”

“Easy for you to say,” She grumbled. Walking over Tori plopped down on the couch like a pouting child. There were a few moments of silence before she asked, “Where’s mom?”

“She’s out.” Warner watched her father look down at the paper I his hands without elaborating. His tone told her it was not something he wanted to discuss.

“Mom’s not happy about all this is she?” The green eyed woman watched as her father continued to read without reply. “Is she mad at you?”

Warner sighed and lowered the paper. “Let’s just say it would be helpful if you and River got along well.”

“I’ll try,” Tori promised.

“Thank…he’s here.” It was almost instant that they heard the doorbell ring. “I’ll get it.”

“No I will,” She replied. Getting up she walked out of the family room and down the hall to the front door. Taking a deep breath she opened the door.

“Perfect,” River said seeing her outfit.

“Thanks, but in the future I’m not one for surprises Riv,” She told him giving him an almost pouty face.

River couldn’t stop the smile that formed on his face. He found her mock pout adorable. Hearing her call him Riv however excited him. The blue eyed man didn’t know why. The blonde woman was the only person that had ever called him that and it not upset him. He mildly wondered if it was the way she said it he liked.

“Have fun,” Warner told the couple.

“I’ll have her back by seven,” River told the enforcer. Warner nodded and River led her outside to his waiting Blue Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster. He opened the front passenger door and waited.

Tori raised an eyebrow at him. “We might get dirty and you want to take that?” She asked.

“If we do, we do, it’ll get cleaned up afterward,” The light brown haired man said unconcerned.

“Why don’t we take my Armada instead?” Tori suggested.

River was dumbstruck. Most girls would kill to ride in his car. They wouldn’t give any thought to the fact they might mess it up later, at all.

“Here,” Tori said and tossed him her keys. “I’ll even let you drive. My truck is made to get dirty with.”

River smiled and shook his head. “Alright but we’re taking mine next time.”
