Chapter 22
(Frustration in the air)
“Daddy!” The blonde woman called. The enforcer looked over and watched as his daughter quickly made her way to him.
Athena barked and quickly ran to her mistress. Tori didn’t hesitate and picked her up. The puppy wasted no time delivering kisses to the girl’s face.
“Athena!” Tori said and laughed as she tried to dodge the puppy’s licks. “I love you too girl,” She said and delivered a kiss on top of her head.
“Give her to your mom. We need to talk.”
“I’ll take her,” Karen told her. Tori nodded and handed the pup off to the other blonde woman.
“Let’s take a walk,” Warner told her. Tori didn’t argue and the two walked away.

Logan stood at the window looking out over the lake. He watched as Warner and Tori sat down by the edge of the lake. The prince knew the enforcer must be explaining what was happening to her.
“What are you…I see Warner is explaining things,” Landon said coming up next to his eldest son. “River will be arriving in two days.”
Logan let out a disapproving growl. The last thing he wanted was the Lord’s son around Tori; Lucas needed time with her.
“Now Logan we have to allow him to come,” The King reminded him. “Lucas will simply need to make the most of the two days he has before his competition arrives.”
“Tori belongs to Lucas!” Logan sneered. “He never rescinded claim, she’s his!”
“Yes well she believes he did.” Landon let out a sigh. “Unfortunately we will have to wait for the tribunal’s ruling; if it were up to me Tori would be his without question.”
“There must be something we can do,” The man with shoulder length blonde hair said. “Some way to ensure River doesn’t get her.”
“If only there were; it isn’t as if River is going to suddenly die.”
Logan’s ears perked up at the comment. The king wasn’t suggesting it just informing him there was nothing they could do about it. Lucas brother however was letting his mind wonder to the possibilities.
“Excuse me Father. I need to take a walk.” Landon didn’t argue and watched his eldest son as he walked away.

“How can he have any claim on me? This doesn’t make sense!” Tori said frustrated.
“Lucas didn’t end things with you,” Warner said calmly.
“Yes he did! He left me dad! He just drove away and I didn’t see him again until now!” The blonde woman said angrily. “I finally think everything is going to be great and viola here we are!”
“Tori try to calm down and listen to me. Yes from your perspective you thought things were over; from his they were put on hold.”
“On hold?!” The green eyed girl said practically glaring at her father.
Warner didn’t care for the cold look his daughter gave him. The Enforcer let out a deep sigh. “I know it’s easy to blame Lucas but I’m at fault here to.”
“You?” She asked.
“I kept you away from the pack and out of everything to do with it. I never taught you the rules because I never thought it would matter,” Her father admitted. “It’s less than five years; it gives him the right to claim you. “
“What? Dad I think you better put this in juvenile terms because I don’t understand.”
“Humans don’t hold claims and such. Wolves do. Because you’re part wolf you can be claimed. If you’d have mentioned Lucas was a werewolf I could have explained this sooner.”
“I didn’t know.”
“You had no idea?” Warner questioned. If Lucas had deliberately kept what he was from her than Tori would be off the hook. River would have to be allowed to claim Tori; he’d never hidden what he was from her. “I need to speak with Adler and Renzo now.” Getting up he headed off to find the two princes’. Things might not be as bad off as they first thought.

Logan walked through the halls until he reached his enforcer Bryn’s room. He gave a knock and waited.
The door opened and a man with medium brown hair cut short answered the door. “Highness,” He said and stepped back allowing the man to enter.
“Bryn.” Entering the room he noticed his other enforcer already there. “Emilio. Good, you’re both here.”
“Something tells me you have a job for us,” The darker haired man replied.
“Have you briefed him on the current situation?” Logan inquired of Bryn.
“He told me. Tori is here and is in dispute between Lucas and someone named River,” Emilio replied. “It hasn’t been five years so River doesn’t have a leg to stand on to keep her.”
“From our perspective yes,” Logan agreed. “Unfortunately it seems Tori is not aware of wolf laws. Her father kept her out of it. She thinks Lucas ended things; not put them on hold.”
“Shit!” Bryn swore. “That could be a problem.”
“Yes it could. Unless there aren’t two claims anymore.”
“You think River will drop his claim?” Emilio inquired.
“Not at all.” Logan got a cruel smile on his face. “That is where you two come in.”
“How we come…you want us to get him out of the way,” Bryn said.
“I want him more than just out of the way. I want him dead,” Logan said in complete coldness. His eyes even took on a malevolent cast as he said, “I want Lord Gregory’s son dead and out of my brothers way.The Marks family should know better than to try and take something from this family.”
“Can we toy with him before we kill him?” Emilio inquired with a hopeful tone.
Logan laughed a cruel laugh. “You can torture him all you want as long as in the end he is dead and Tori belongs to Lucas.”
“Is Lucas truly this concerned about this River?” Bryn questioned.
“Lucas does not need to know about any of this,” Logan warned. “I want all his attention on luring Tori back into love with him.”
“Lucas wouldn’t approve,” Bryn summarized.
“What Lucas doesn’t know won’t hurt him. Just see to it that River is taken care of.” He walked to his enforcer’s bedroom window and looked outside. Tori was sitting by the edge of the lake alone. “Tori will make my brother a perfect wife. Beautiful, smart, and strong; the makings of a queen.”
“I’m surprised you don’t go after her,” Emilio remarked.
Logan smirked. “No. I love my wife.” With a sigh he added, “I wish we hadn’t lost our child and her ability to have another but…I will keep Maylene. Besides Lucas loves Tori with all his heart; I could never hurt him like that.”
“You do realize he’ll be upset if he finds out about this,” Bryn warned.
“He’s not going to find out,” The heir warned. “I don’t even want Maylene to know. This stays between us and those I trust to help get River out of the way,” he said turning to face his enforcers. “You have to be careful. A Tribunal has been called so there will be Prince’s everywhere. It must appear to be an accident.” Pleased with their nods he said, “I leave the details to you.” That said the prince left the room. His enforcers had never failed him before; he was confident they would succeed.
