"Welcome to Camp Dance, I'm Alina and I'll be teaching advanced Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Ballroom. In the back there are sign up sheets so after we're done here you can sign up for any class you want, but you must pick two. You will take one the first two weeks and the other the next two weeks. The first day of each class according to how well you dance I and my fellow counselors will place you in advanced, intermediate, or beginners. Every camper is expected to be in their respective class on time. In other words don't be late. Time is very important in the world of dance. Such as when you dance every single step has to be in time with the music. If you aren't in time with the music or the beat and your steps are off then the dance won't be uniform and you'll be a mess it'll just be a person moving randomly to a song with no meaning whatsoever. Also all of you are required to take an acting class. The best dancers are the best actors. Any questions?" I told the campers at orientation night.
"Before questions guys how would you like Alina to put on a little show for us? Just to demonstrate what she means by being in time with the music." One of the male counselors said to them. I shot daggers at the back of his head with my eyes.
"I can't sorry. M-" I started.
"Its okay you probably can't dance anyways." He saud rudely.
Cece got up and defended me, "She probably dances better than you, she's been dancing for fifteen years while you've only danced for two! So leave her alone Ty. She doesn't have to prove herself to you or anyone in this room." Everyone else agreed with her. This girl probably just saved my life. My body is feeling very weak right now. I could faint at any point, honestly.
"Okay guys everyone get up on your feet. I feel like we all need to loosen up. So we are going to play a game called 'Simon Says' except its going to involve dancing." Everyone stood up. A few giggles and one groan was heard. I figured it was Ty. "Since some of you may not know what I say Ty will be demonstrating and you will copy. Sounds good?" I got a chorus of yeses and a smug look from Ty. "Simon says get into fifth position." Ty got into fifth position then everyone else followed. "Simon says point 4 times then stop." Everyone followed. "Simon says stop everything you're doing. Simon says space out. Grand jete!" Only Ty and two other girls did it. I chuckled. " Everyone, except Ty, who did the last move sit against the wall.
The game went on for two hours, as a reward the last five dancers standing gets one on one time with me once a week before camp is over. Thankfully Lacey was in that group.
2 Hours Later
"Lights out in ten ladies." I told the older girls before heading back to the counselors' cabin. As I was walking towards my cabin someone called my name. I couldn't see who it was so I walked in the direction of the person. When I got closer I recognized the camp coordinator. Who's name I learned was Sarah.
"Someone is on the phone for you." She told me then pulled me to her office. She pointed me to the phone and I hung it up.
"I'm not taking any calls Sarah, so if anyone calls here asking for me don't answer. If anyone comes here looking for me don't let them through. Got it?" She nodded. When I began walking to the door she asked " Why?" I looked back at her and laughed.
"Because I ran away from home."
