Samantha's POV

I hear the sound of sirens, and then I feel hands on my body making my eyes flutter open.

"M'am...M'am, can you tell me what happened?" A male's voice asks from above me, feeling pain flow throughout my body.

*Flashback*

Hearing the front door open, my eyes widen as I finish setting the rest of the food on the table with trembling hands. I see the face of my boyfriend William coming into the dining room. "Get me a beer!" William barks as he sits at the table, loosening the tie around his neck and taking off his suit jacket. With my hands still trembling, I quickly rush to the kitchen, accidentally running into the counter. "Ouch," I hiss too loudly, lifting my shirt to see the big purple bruise William left a few nights ago. "Hurry up you stupid bitch!" William growls.

Ignoring the pain, I grab a beer, popping the cap off before making my way back to William. "About damn time," He snatches the beer bottle from me, taking a long gulp before digging into the food. I sit down quietly, eating the food I prepared...nobody says a word.

William finishes eating. The chair scraps against the hardwood floor as he gets up, leaving his dirty dishes for me to clean up.

Sighing, a tear drips down my face as I continue to eat my food, quickly wiping it away before William sees it. He walks out of the kitchen, about three more beers in his hands as he makes his way to the living room to watch TV...his usual routine. Standing up, I clear the table of all the dirty dishes, taking them to the kitchen to wash.

I hear the TV blasting as I begin to wash the dirty dishes, putting the extra food into containers.

While washing the dishes, I feel a tight and firm grip on my hips. Cringing, I feel William begin to place slop kisses along my neck. He gets touchy and violent when he's drunk.

"William...not tonight, I'm not in the mood," I whisper, afraid of what he might do as I pull away from him. Suddenly William grips my wrist, turning me around to face him, his face red with anger. "What did you just say to me?" He grounds out slowly through gritted teeth. I stay quiet, too afraid to say anything. "Huh, you dumb bitch?!" He yells, taking me by the wrists and slamming me up against the counter, the back of my head hitting the cupboard door. The impact made me drop the plate I was holding in my hand.

"Please stop..." I whisper as tears begin forming in my eyes.

"You dumb bitch! After everything, I've done for you! You don't say no to me!" He growls as he moves his hands from my wrist to around my neck, quickly cutting off my air supply.

Gasping I claw at his hands, trying to get some type of air in. He lifts me off the ground, my feet dangling inched off the ground. "W-Will-" I choke out as I try to get his hands from around my neck, my body thrashing around.

Out of the corner of my eyes, I see some of the plates I had washed sitting on the counter drying. Feeling my airway close more, I quickly but subtly reach for the plate, my fingertips barely grazing it. I hear William chuckle darkly, his grip loosening just a little. "You think you can stop me?" He spits, moving his face closer to mine, "Well you can't!" He yells, pulling his hand back and punching me in the face...twice. Crying out in pain, I quickly use the distraction to grab the plate and slam it hard against William's head, his grip around my neck leaving as I watch his body crumple to the ground.

Sucking in a much-needed breath, I quickly move around him, grabbing my purse, phone, and keys, and running out of the apartment and to my car.

Fumbling with my keys, I try to unlock my car as fresh tears start falling on my face into the opened wounds making me hiss.

*16 hours later*

I've been driving for 16 hours to Seattle from California, wanting to find my older brother Alex, a surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital.

The snow begins to fall heavier, my head pounding against my skull badly. Sighing, I take one hand off the wheel, massaging my head...most likely having a concussion. I close my eyes for a brief second and the next thing I know, my car is flipping through an intersection.

Pain. All I feel is pain. The last thing I hear is the sound of tires screeching and sirens before my world goes black.

*End of flashback*

"M'am...M'am, can you tell me what happened?" A male voice asks from above me, feeling pain throughout my body, bringing me out of my unconscious state.

My head throbs, the pain becoming too much.

"A-Alex K-Karev," I choke out before darkness takes over again.
