Samantha's POV
"No, no. It's not real, it's not real," I pace back and forth, ignoring the pain in my foot. Being a doctor, I knew I was in shock...most likely a case of PTDS. I can hear Mark mumbling I love you over and over as I continue to pace, tears falling fast and freely down my face. "She's dead..my best friend is dead," A wail leaves my lips as I come to a stop, my hands gripping my hair at the sudden realization that Lexie won't be coming back. I hear footsteps nearing Mark and me and turn to see Christina and Meredith.
"She's dead," I let out a sob and fell to the ground in a pile of tears. Mark moves to sit in front of Lexie's body. "What? No. No!" Mer drops to the ground like me, sobbing uncontrollably. Christina just sits there with a blank look on her face. "Lexie," Meredith continues to sob which only makes me cry harder. This went on for about 15 minutes before Christina and Mer leave to find Derek.
"She loved you ya know," I tell Mark as I shift my weight so I'm sitting on my butt and not resting on my injured leg. "I love...loved, her too," I let out a scoff and rolled my eyes.
"If you loved her you should have broken it off with redhead and tried to get back with her," I could feel my body heating up, my sadness now consumed by anger. "She told me to leave her alone so that's what I did!" Mark argues with me. "Because you found out you had a daughter, who was pregnant with your grandson, and then you had a daughter of your own! You didn't ask her how she felt about it! She wanted all of that with you!" I scream at him, silent tears falling on both of our faces. "She wanted that with you," I repeat quietly, my voice hoarse from screaming. My ears perk up when I hear the sound of...Derek's voice?
Meredith and Christina come back with Derek who is holding his left arm to his body. They gently lower him to the ground, letting him rest against a stray rock as they start cleaning his wound. "Where's Lexie?" Derek asks Meredith which just sets off a new wave of tears. "No-no," He breathes then lets out a hiss of pain when Mer pours the antibiotics on his wound. "Get a t-shirt...a bandana," I hear Derek say to Christina or Meredith, my curiosity getting the best of me so I look up, seeing Mer near Derek who looked as if he would pass out any second while Christina searches through a suitcase. "I need you to take the clothespin and pin my skin together, then wrap the bandana around it," Derek tells Mer. "Why do you need the t-shirt?" Christina asks with the thin piece of fabric dangling from her good hand. "So I can put it in my mouth. I'm gonna scream...a lot. I-I'm gonna pass out," Derek tells Christina before opening his mouth so she can put the shirt in. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry," I hear Meredith mumble a loud muffled scream as she sews his skin together with the clothespin.
"Please pass out. Please pass out."
Once Meredith got Derek all stitched up I started helping Christina look for things we could use to keep us alive through the night. "Matches! We can build a fire," I wave my hand around with the newly found matches in the sir to show everyone. "Fire. Yes--let's make a fire," Mer quickly agrees. "Mark! Mark! We need to start a fire!" I call to Mark--who looks sickishly pale. "Mark you have to help," Christina says as she gets up from the ground.
"I'll figure out how to get it started," Mer says to Christina as I nod, agreeing with her. "No! No! He doesn't get to do this--he doesn't get to do this. He doesn't get to stop helping! I'm sorry he lost Lexie, but she was your sister and your best friend and you guys are still helping," I look down to the ground, my fingers twisting a loose piece of thread dangling from my scrub as tears form in my eyes just thinking about Lexie. "He has to help because the sky is falling!" She yells angrily while storming over to Mark who was staring at nothing while still propped up against the plane next to Lexie's body.
"Christina..." Derek sighs.
"No! No! No!" She suddenly stops, turning to face the three of us."You know, if there's one thing that I've learned w-with all of the bombs and guns to my head a-and buses running down my friends, is that I am not interested in dying! I want to get out of here! I want to go home! So everybody needs to help!" She finishes her rant, hints of panic laced in her voice. "Mark! Mark! Get up and help Mark!" Christina growls, kneeling to Mark and shoving his shoulder. His body sways but he doesn't say anything. I watch Christina as she quickly but gently lays Mark down followed by the tearing of the fabric. "Oh, crap...Mer, Sam," I quickly start hobbling my way toward her, a gasp leaving my lips as I see Mark's red and purple chest. "It's cardiac tamponade," Christina and I say at the same time. "Are you sure?" Derek asks us with a weary look in his eyes. "75 percent sure," I tell him quietly. "70 percent sure," Christina tells him. "That's not very sure," Mer says with caution laced in her voice.
