Samantha's POV
"Emergency services have begun identifying bodies. They've given us a list. The airline reps are on their way. We've got social workers and more coming. It's a long list. Each of you has families to inform."
"So, uh, please be outside the cafeteria in exactly one hour. You'll call one family at a time and you'll be assigned a room to take them to and deliver the news. It's gonna be a...a long day," The shrink who did all of our evaluations says to all of us before he and Chief Weber leave. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Hunt walk up to the bulletin board, a paper in hand. He's going to post Chief Resident. He quickly uses a tack to pin the paper in place before leaving. Moving to the board, I take a closer look. Wow. Both Mer and Alex let out an angry sigh before leaving in opposite directions of each other. "Congratulations April," I give her a sincere smile, seeing as I didn't want to be Chief Resident in the first place.

"I've got three names. I don't think I can do this three times," I tell Jackson as we stand in the hallway outside of the cafeteria. I could already feel the waterworks coming, I mean, even though I've done this before I am an emotional person so doing this is still going to be hard. "You're going to be okay, you'll do just fine," Jackson takes me into his arms, rubbing his hands up and down my back in a soothing manner. "You can do this, you're Samantha Karev," My body feels light and airy as I gaze up at my loving boyfriend. Leaning up onto my toes, I give him a small peck on the lips, since we're at work it wouldn't be very appropriate to give him a full-blown kiss. I'll just wait until later, wink, wink. Soon the shrink comes back and gives Bailey a nod.
"All right. Let's do it."
As we enter, all the chatter coming from the families dies down. Teddy calls out the family names on her list, followed by Mark. "They think it's good news," April quietly tells Lexie and me before Bailey calls out a name from her list. We repeat the process over and over again for the next two hours.
After I finished talking with the families I had on my list I headed to the ER to make sure everything was organized and charged...even though I knew it was. "The cafeteria is pandemonium," Mark comes walking into the ER, "crying people everywhere," he then makes his way to the front desk. "You admitting anyone?" I ask him while turning a machine off to save its battery life. "No, we're signing in a few so we can give 'em sedatives. That's about it," Mark then moves to the computer next to mine to add the people into the system when the telephone rings. "E.R.," I answer, waiting for the person on the other line to talk. My eyes widen in shock and I turn to Mark who also turns to look at me when he realizes I've been silent. "There's a survivor."

"Sarah Gordon--G.C.S. of 6, head injury and multiple contusions to mid-torso. Systolic 70s in the field," Arizona announces as she wheels in the survivor from the plane crash, Mark and Hunt following after her. We were all gowned and ready to go. "Unaccompanied minor?" Mark asks as he parks her next to one of the gurneys. "Yeah, she was flying alone," Arizona says as he and Hunt prepare to move the girl with the help of the paramedics. "On my count, one, two--" They lift her onto the gurney, at this point, Chief Weber and Bailey were here as well.
"Okay, I need an x-ray in here. We need to shoot a c-spine, chest, and pelvis."
"Abdomen's rigid."
"I've got the ultrasound," Bailey says, Derek showing up to check her head. "Large hematoma on the left temporal lobe," Everybody is talking at the same time, hands moving quickly around her body to check for any other hidden injuries, and that's when her eyes open. "Guys, we've got eyes," I announce, everybody stops talking as they look down at the little girl. "Sarah, I'm Dr. Shepherd. Do you see all these people around you? They're doctors. Have you ever seen this many doctors before?" Her heartbeat picks up a little bit, most likely nerves, but Derek calms her down. "Hey, don't worry. We're all here to take care of you, okay?" They continued to help Sarah, and Bailey gave me a paper with the family name and other information on it. I head back to the cafeteria, people clustered together with their loved ones, crying. I take a deep breath. "Excuse me. Is the Gordon family here? The Gordon's?" Nobody speaks up, spotting Lexie, I hand her the sheet. "They found somebody?" She asks while reading over the paper. "A little girl. unaccompanied minor, they're operating on her right now," I tell her before leaving the cafeteria. I could feel my eyes watering, I was exhausted and it's been a long day. Walking into the hall, I try to make it to the bathroom before crying, my lips tremble as the tears start to freely fall, and I spot April in the hall by the nurse's desk. "Hey Sammie, everything okay--" I veer into the bathroom, my body dropping as sobs rack my body. "Oh, Sammie," I hear April whisper, the door shutting behind her as she moves to kneel beside me wrapping her arms around me. "C-Can you get J-Jackson," April rubs my back before getting up and leaving.
