Davy was talking to Peter on how to act on a first date. Peter was listening to every word that Davy told him. He was taking notes from Davy. He really liked Rosemary and wanted to make the best first impression he could on a date. Maybe if he did she'd think of going on more dates with him.
Peter just wanted to be with Rosemary. He was so in love with her and the other could tell.
Mike was very cautious and wasn't sure how he felt about Peter trying to date a girl that couldn't hear. He wasn't sure how a relationship like that was going to work. Micky was all for their relationship. Davy was all for any type of romance, even if it wasn't his own.
Peter looked at the clock on the wall. It was time for them to go to the bar and grill. They loaded up their instruments in the Monkeemobile and drove to the restaurant. Peter still had an hour before Rosemary would show up and he'd have to play another thirty minutes before he could be with her. He was starting to get itchy to see her.
The Monkees started playing and singing. They went through their set for an hour. Peter kept checking the clock. Rosemary showed up five minutes late. She looked around the room and quietly sat down at an empty table. Peter smiled and waved at her, and she waved back. The Monkees finished their set and Peter sat down in front of her. She smiled and pulled out a notepad.
"You looked like you were having fun."
"I was," Peter replied. "I love playing."
Rosemary smiled. "Those are your bandmates?"
Peter nodded. "The tall black haired man is Mike Nesmith, the short one is Davy Jones, the curly-haired one is Micky Dolenz," He said pointing at them after each statement. Then he wrote each of their names down.
Rosemary's lips parted as she understood. "Why did Mike look at me weird?"
"He's not so sure about me going out with a deaf girl," Peter said.
Rosemary frowned. She messed with the red checkered tablecloth then looked back up at Peter. She shrugged. She opened the menu then started to reading it. She pointed at a few things then finally decided on a barbecue sandwich. Peter didn't like any of the food on the menu. He kept looking up at Rosemary and making funny faces to get her to smile.
Finally Peter settled on a large side of coleslaw. Rosemary thought this was weird. A waitress in a skimpy outfit came by and took their order. Peter ordered for both of them so that it would be easier. The waitress came back a few minutes later with their order. She kept giving Peter funny looks because he was only eating a large bowl of coleslaw.
Peter didn't seem to care what everyone else thought. He just ate his coleslaw and looked happy with it. Rosemary watched him eat after she finished her sandwich. She couldn't understand what possessed him to eat only coleslaw. Finally she asked.
"Why are you only eating coleslaw?" She wrote down.
Peter looked at the paper. His brow furrowed, and he swallowed his food. "I don't know..." He said slowly. "That's all I wanted I guess."
Rosemary snorted. Peter smiled at her. "I'm a little stupid so I just do things," He said.
"No. That's a perfectly understandable."
Peter finished his coleslaw and paid for their meal. The waitress was still giving him funny looks.
"Do you want to go for a walk?" Peter asked Rosemary.
Rosemary nodded. They walked outside. The air was starting to get chilly, but it wasn't cold yet. Peter really wanted to hold Rosemary's hand, but he didn't know if she wanted him to. Finally he got up the nerve and took her hand. She looked up at him sorta surprised, but she smiled and walked closer to him.
The walk was silent, and Rosemary seemed to be enjoying herself. As they walked near the park it was very cold. Peter put his arm over Rosemary's shoulder, and she leaned her head against his chest as they walked. He tapped her shoulder so she'd look at him in the face.
"I'm trying to learn sign language," Peter said.
Rosemary smiled. She signed that's nice to him, but he wasn't that far along.
"I only know a little bit," Peter said signing with what little he knew of the sentence.
Rosemary smiled and touched his hands. She showed him the signs to finish the rest of the sentence. Peter tried the sentence again, and Rosemary clapped for him. She told him good in sign language, which he did know.
Rosemary looked at her watch. She pulled out her notepad and wrote, "I should head home now."
"Okay, do you want me to walk you home?" Peter asked trying to sign with each word, but not doing so well.
Rosemary smiled at his attempt. "That would be very nice," She wrote.
So Rosemary and Peter walked back to Rosemary's apartment. They got to her door step. Peter wanted to kissed her, but he was so nervous. Rosemary wanted to kiss him, but she was also nervous. Finally she decided she would have to initiate the kiss so she stood on her toes and kissed him.
Peter's cheek burned bright red. When Rosemary dropped back onto her heels she smiled at him bashfully. She was blushing too. Peter smiled. "Do you want to do this again sometime?" He asked.
Rosemary nodded. "When would it be good for you?" She wrote on her notepad.
"Next week on Friday," Peter said. "We could have breakfast!"
Rosemary nodded. "I'll meet you at that same coffee shop at 8:30?" She wrote.
Peter smiled and nodded. "That's perfect," He said.
Rosemary smiled. Peter wanted to kiss her again as a goodbye so he did. He kissed her gently, and she melted in his arms. "Bye," He said when they broke apart.
Rosemary waved at him as she stepped into her apartment. She blew him one last kiss as she closed the door. Peter was feeling so good he seemed to fly home.
