Brianna's POV
I wake up still in the backseat of Ryan's car. Ryder is awake, and he looks ready to strike if Ryan tries to surprise him. We're at a gas station and Ryan is pumping gas.
"Did he say where he's taking us?" I ask quietly.
"Yeah, he did."
"Oh, where?"
"To my dad."
"Is that bad?"
"Yes."
"Why?"
"My dad is as evil as Ryan."
"Oh. Are they going to kill me?" I don't sound scared, just curious. The fact that I'm okay with it, scares me more than dying. Strange.
"Not if I can help it," he says, his voice is cold, serious. His voice sends a shiver down my spine and I get a strange feeling in my stomach, but it's not from his voice. More of what he actually said.
Ryan opens his door, and peeks his head in, "I'm going to go inside and get some cigarettes. You two want anything?"
I don't say anything and neither does Ryder.
"You were talking a lot when she was asleep, what changed?"
I hide my curiosity, knowing that's what Ryan's trying to do. They were probably talking about me, and Ryan is trying to get me to ask Ryder about it. But I won't.
"Nothing changed. Go get your cigarettes," Ryder grumbles.
Ryan walks off with a deep smirk.
We sit in silence for a moment. I decide to break it. "Why'd he leave us? Won't we leave?"
"He knows we would. He has his people here. They're stationed all around us."
I nod understanding, it's a trap. "Is he in the rival gang?"
"No, we're in the same gang."
"Then aren't they your people too?"
"No, our gang is not as together as we let them see. We're practically in a civil war. The gang is set up in ranks, as you know. The highest ranks are in a table, and it's only one table so we have that together. But below that, it's split in the middle. Everyone is waiting for the head, the highest ranked table, to divide and make two separate gangs."
"Do you think that will happen?"
"I do. The head is split already, just not publicly."
"As public as a gang can get."
He forces a smile.
"Wait, if they aren't public, how do you know about it?"
He remains silent.
"There were no bosses at that park," I realize, my eyes growing. "You are in the head. There were no bosses there, because you don't have any!" I scoot away, slightly.
The small action hurts him, but he covers it quickly. "I do have a boss, technically we all do. The leader of the gang is the boss of all bosses, and he's my boss."
"But is he your only boss?"
I take his silence as a yes.
I try to keep my cool, "You're his a second in command?"
"His second hand, yes."
I stare at the guy in front of me. I knew he had some power in the gang, at least over Helen. But second hand?! "How many people have you killed?" I ask, even I can barely hear it. I know he heard me.
