The guy walks me out of the room, but not without a fight. I scream, kick, and flail. Of course the guy is pure muscle and I have never seen the inside of a weight room in my life.
"Stop fighting. You're literally not doing anything," he grumbles.
"Put me down," I try to twist around, but he holds me tight.
"Okay," he throws me across the room. I land on the couch, but roll off of it.
I clutch my throbbing arm that I landed on when I fell off the couch.
He locks the door and stomps over to me.
I try to back up but my back hits the couch. My breathing picks up.
"Don't be scared," he smiles like the Cheshire Cat.
I try to focus on the fact that he's creeping closer to me, but my heart hammers in my ear.
He stops in front of the coffee table that's separating the two of us.
As he begins to walk around it, the door flies open.
One of Helen's other goons yells at the man to take me back to the theater.
He complains under his breath, but picks me up and follows his buddy.
Back in the theater, Helen ties Jamie and I's hands behind our backs and gags us with rags.
The door opens, slamming against the wall. Jamie jumps, and scoots closer to me. I move my pinkie a little, so we're holding pinkies. I know it doesn't do much, but she does look a little more relieved.
"Helen, where are my children?" Dad's voice booms through the house.
Mom and Valerie stand tall with Dad.
Helen heaves me up by my shoulder. My heart picks up as a cold, metal object finds its why to my temple.
"Helen," Mom's voice sounds reasoning.
"Dylan, you've lost your edge," Helen tightens her grip on me.
"Helen, I am asking you, mother to mother-"
"You took my child away from me!" Helen screeches.
Mom flinches and Dad's eyes are locked on mine. Valerie watches Jamie.
"And I'm taking yours away from you," Helen's voice shows how crazy she is.
I try to slow my heartbeat by taking deep breaths.
"Mom, Dad," I say, trying to sound strong. "I'll be okay. I'll see you soon."
"Bri," Mom's voice shakes.
I put on my best smile, for them, "I'll be okay."
Helen drags me away and I see Mom turning into Dad's comforting embrace. I smile at the picture, a sad smile. And when I hear a strangled sob from Mom, just as Helen closes the back door, tears puddle in my eyes.
Helen sets me in a helicopter, even buckles me in. I stare straight ahead, tears falling freely from my eyes.
"Don't be scared, little one. I won't hurt you!" Helen says, sickly sweet.
I don't reply, biting my lip to keep a sob at bay.
I begin to doze off on the flight, figuring I'll need my energy if I am going to have to fight for my life. In hindsight, I should have listened more to Mom and Dad about Helen. That way I could know what I'm dealing with. Also in hindsight, if Mom didn't kidnap me, we'd all be at home when Helen stormed. Mom and Dad could have protected us. At least Jamie is okay. Valerie is okay. Mom is okay. Dad is okay.
