"Okay, what's going on?" Jesse asked.
"Axel got..." Lukas began. He couldn't quite think of the right word to use. "Well, something happened to him. Now, he's trying to kill us!" Jesse didn't believe this for a second. Axel would never do anything like that. He might not like Lukas very much, but he wouldn't try to kill him.
"Axel would never do that!" Jesse argued.
"You have to believe us!" said Petra. Before Jesse could say anything else, everyone's eyes grew wide with fear as Jesse turned around. Axel stood there, hovering over everyone. His eyes were glowing white and anger was on his face.
"Run!" Jesse yelled as she pushed everyone along. It took them a moment to get moving because everyone was paralyzed with fear and confusion. They all ran back up the hill they came from with Axel chasing close at their heels.
"What do we... what do we do now?" asked Olivia with a pant.
"I don't know, just run!" said Jesse.
After a while, everyone grew tired of running. Luckily, Axel did too. Everyone flopped onto the ground with a THUD.
"Ugh," said Olivia, "I'm so tired, I feel like I could just fall asleep right here!" Jesse was too winded to respond. It felt nice to sit down, though.
"So..." Lukas began, "What now?"
"Honestly," replied Jesse, "I have no idea."
"We just need to find out what might have happened with Axel. That has to have something to do with our mission, right?" asked Petra. Jesse just nodded.
"Petra," said Olivia, "when did Axel start acting this way? What were you and Lukas doing?" Petra responded,
"We were checking out a big Redstone house. Then Axel started murmuring something about... cookies."
"Petra and I turned around to see what he was saying," said Lukas, "but then he tried to attack us. Then he chased us out of the building."
"I remember his eyes being glowing white," said Jesse, "it was very strange."
"You noticed that too?" asked Olivia, "He almost looked like Herobrine!"
"That's ridiculous!" said Jesse, "Herobrine isn't real!" Petra spoke up,
"I don't know, Jesse," she said, "at this point, anything's possible. Herobrine could be real."
"That would explain a lot," said Lukas. By now, Jesse was the only one in the group who didn't believe in Herobrine. Actually, a part of Jesse did believe in him. She mostly just didn't want to believe.
"Maybe you're right," Jesse admitted, "I guess if you're friend you've known forever suddenly starts trying to kill you and his eyes turn white, that probably means something, right?"
"How are we going to get back into the village, then?" Everyone paused for a moment. How would they get back in? Axel would just try to attack them again.
"What if one of us distracts him while the rest of us sneaks back into the Redstone house?" Lukas suggested.
"That's not a bad idea!" said Olivia, "The question is- who will be the distraction?" After a moment of silence, Jesse realized everyone was looking at her.
"What?" she asked with frustration. "Oh, no. No, I'm not doing it. I was already the distraction for when we tried to make the Endermen angry!"
"Okay," said Olivia, "that's not fair for you. Does anyone else want to do it?"
"I don't think anyone wants to," said Lukas.
"Well, someone has to!" said Petra.
"Maybe we could draw straws or something?" Lukas suggested.
"I know what we could do," said Olivia as she held her arms out in front of her.
"Alright, everyone put your hand into the bowl," she said. Jesse, Lukas, and Petra all extended a hand.
"Now, someone put their hand in for me." Jesse knew this trick. The person in the group who extended their hand for Olivia would be the distraction. Unfortunately, nobody was gullible enough to put a second hand in. Petra was too smart for these kinds of things. Lukas, who used to be a part of a group of pranksters, had most likely seen this trick a thousand times. Jesse, who has known Axel forever, had seen him do this before.
"Olivia," Petra began, "nobody is falling for this."
"Look, said Lukas, "this is getting us nowhere. I'll just do it." Everyone silently agreed.
"Let's go then," said Jesse. She began back toward the village as everyone else followed.
