Chapter 17- Jesse's Fever

"I can live through it! I'm fine," said Jesse. To her annoyance, she broke out into an uncontrollable coughing fit, which didn't help prove she was fine. It hurt her throat badly. When she looked down at her hands, there was a little spot of blood.

"Oh, that can't be good," said Jesse.

"You need some rest!" Olivia exclaimed. Jesse sat down on the ground and sniffed. She really wasn't feeling well, so she was secretly glad to sit.

This must be how Petra feels, thought Jesse. Everyone else sat down near her. Suddenly, Jesse felt a strong pain in her stomach.

"Guys," said Jesse, "I think I'm gonna be sick."

"Well, you kind of already are si- oh," said Axel. Jesse quickly turned away and quietly got sick. She gagged all of it up. Everything just seemed to be forced out of her as if there was a person she didn't see behind her pushing it out. Although Jesse hated the feeling of it, she felt much better when it was over. The pain was almost gone.

She wiped her mouth and sheepishly turned back around. She couldn't help but notice Lukas looking a little green. Axel said,

"Oh, that kind of sick. As in you meant you were going to-"

"Axel," Olivia corrected with a glare.

Petra scooted closer to Jesse and put her hand on her back.

"It's okay," she reassured.

That, for some reason, made Jesse feel really good. She was still sick, but she felt a little less uncomfortable. The moment was soon disturbed when Jesse started coughing and wheezing heavily again. A taste of salt came into her mouth when she realized she had coughed up blood for the second time. She turned around and spat it out on the ground along with some phlegm. Petra backed away slightly.

"Where could this sickness have come from? Just yesterday I was completely fine!" said Jesse.

"Well, it's not like you can plan sickness. It just happens," said Axel.

"I mean," said Jesse. She paused to cough, "where did I get it from?"

"Do you think Herobrine might have something to do with it?" asked Lukas.

"Ah! I've been waiting for someone to say that!" said Herobrine as she emerged from the woods. By now, Jesse wasn't too afraid of his "surprise visits".

"What are you doing here?" asked Axel, "I thought you already took over the world and stuff!"

"Oh, I already finished doing that," he responded, "I just started getting bored with no other land to conquer, I thought I'd start messing with the people living on it. Starting with you."

"We won't let you!" Jesse's voice cracked as she spoke.

"I thought you were smart enough to realize that I've already started. Petra's ankle, your fever, and I'm only getting started! I still have three of you left to mess with, though. Have fun!" With that, Herobrine slowly started to fade away until he was gone.

"We have to keep going," said Petra with determination. She started to try to stand up.

"Petra! You're going to hurt yourself!" exclaimed Olivia.

"Stop saying stuff like that. I can do it," demanded Petra. She was able to get up, but she had to balance on one foot.

"Where will we go?" asked Lukas, "Herobrine could be anywhere at this point. We have no idea where he is!" The more he spoke, the more frustrated his voice sounded.

"Let's just, um," –-cough, cough-- "look around for clues. Maybe we can find something useful," said Jesse. The group started walking back up the edge of the river.

"Whoa, this is new," said Axel. Jesse looked over to where he was and saw that there was a big castle with red flags waving above it. There was a moat of lava surrounding it with a wide drawbridge in front of the entrance.

"Axel, do you think Herobrine built this?" asked Olivia.

"I don't know, but it wasn't there before," replied Axel.

"Let's go check it out, then," said Lukas.

Once they started moving, Jesse started really dizzy and had a headache.

"Hold on, guys," said Jesse. Everyone stopped and looked at her. She held her head in her hands and closed her eyes. The darkness felt much better.

"Maybe... maybe you shouldn't come," said Olivia.

"I really want to come," said Jesse breathlessly, "but I'm not sure if I can go much further."

"Maybe there's a place you can rest in that castle," Lukas suggested.

"But what if that's Herobrine's castle? We'd surely get caught!" said Olivia.

"Then we'll just have to be sneaky," said Lukas as if the answer was really obvious. Jesse then broke out into another coughing and wheezing fit. Everyone started looking worried.

"I'll try to hold it in," said Jesse. That would be easier said than done...
