A woman clung to her small child, sobbing violently. Flames licked at her (s/c) skin and crackled loudly. The baby wailed in its mother's arms, not understanding the situation. The mother ran through the burning hallway, the smokey atmosphere closing in on her. Coughs wracked her body. She was soon met with a flight of stairs. Half of it was cut off by fire. The mother, full of determination, jumped over some of the holes in the stairs and charged through the fire (A/N: Badass mom!). Fortunately, the baby wasn't hurt, but the mother's sleeve was lit on fire, slowly eating into the fabric and into her flesh. Her (e/c) eyes were filled with hope. Tears clouded her vision, preventing her from seeing the loose part of ceiling. Before she could make it to the front door, she heard a crack from above her. She turned her head upward, her eyes widening. The charred ceiling crashed down on the mother, the only trace of her was her outstretched arms from out of the doorway. Laying a few inches away was the baby girl. Tears streamed down her face. Sirens sounded off not too far from the scene. One of the firefighters stepped onto the front yard and scanned the area for any sign of life. The baby's loud wails caught her ears. Her gaze fell and she gasped. There was the baby... her right leg was mangled and scarred. But what really shocked the firefighter was that out of all of the black mess, the baby was laying in a patch of healthy green grass. Tears welded up in the firefighter's eyes. "Miracle child... that's what you are." She whispered, gingerly picking up the child's frail form. Then, she turned her head back in the direction of the other firefighters, "Help! We have an injured child over here!"
