Chapter 11

Ronnie awoke to the sound of her alarm. Her friends were running around the room, getting ready for the wedding. She yawned and stretched, and slowly sat up in her bed.

"You know we've been trying to get you up for the last hour, right?" Kristy asked her.

"No, I didn't know. Sorry about that," Ronnie replied. She had fallen asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow the previous night.

"I told them to let you sleep while we got ready. Four women and one bathroom don't mix well," Kara explained.

"Thanks," Ronnie said. The extra sleep could only help Ronnie to get through the day.

Ronnie hurried and got a shower. She was ready in record speed. She certainly did not want to be unprepared today. The wedding would take place in three hours. She still didn't understand how exactly she had been roped into doing a reading.

A reading! she thought. Where did I put that poem Mia gave me? She wasn't sure where it had ended up. She began searching frantically around the room.

"Are you looking for this?" Maggie asked, holding up a piece of white paper with a light blue border. It was the poem paper!

"Yes! Thank you!" Ronnie squealed as she grabbed it out of Maggie's hand.

"Have you read it yet?" Maggie asked. "It's pretty touching. You should probably be prepared."

"I'll read it over before I get up there. I'll be fine," Ronnie stated. She didn't notice the look Maggie gave her when she said it.

A very hectic hour later, the boat was docking. In six hours, I'll be at the airport, thought Ronnie. At least the stress of doing the reading was keeping her from thinking about her feelings for Josh.

As she and her friends stepped off the boat, Mia flew over and grabbed Ronnie's arm. "I'm going to steal her away from you and introduce her to the wedding party," she explained. Ronnie didn't feel as if she needed to know everyone just to do a reading, but she was all about keeping Mia happy.

The two of them walked over to a group of women in orange sundresses. "This is Jodi, Casey, Peyton, and Josh's sister, Lila. Do you two know each other?" Mia asked.

Ronnie exchanged pleasantries with each of them. Then she said, "Lila and I never really got to know each other." Lila nodded in agreement.

Ronnie felt someone grab her hand and pull her away from the group. It was Josh.

"I'm confused. Why are you here?" he asked incredulously.

"Your wife asked me to do a reading. Something about someone missing their flight?" Ronnie answered.

"She's not my wife yet, but I do remember hearing something about that," he said.

She realized that he was still holding her hand. She looked down at their intertwined fingers, not yet saying anything. Josh looked down, too.

"I'm sorry," he apologized, letting go of her hand. "I didn't even notice I was doing that." At that point, Ronnie wanted to smother the man in kisses. She also wouldn't have minded a trip back to his suite to finish what they'd started the other day. It physically hurt her that he was getting married. Thankfully, she had a pretty good poker face when necessary. She looked at her watch. Only five more hours until I'm in the airport, she thought.
