I couldn't breathe for a while. I was being crushed by something, probably the rubble from the explosion. What the hell happened? We hadn't even been here an hour, and yet me, Tom and Dylan had nearly been blown to bits. I guessed that we were standing by the front door, so that was probably blocked now too. Great.
Eventually, Alex lifted the rubble from my chest.
"You okay? What happened??" He asked me.
"I don't know, I heard a clicking noise, but then everything went black. You got Tom and Dylan out?"
"Yeah, yeah...but the front doors blocked and Dylan's out cold."
"Out cold? Shit. How are the others?"
"Panicking. Briony is trying to escape, Charlotte's tried calling people, but signal is dead. And Lucy is just pacing back and forth."
"Great. Absolutely great."
After recovering, I looked around at the room. Rubble blocked the front door. Dylan lay by the fire, barely breathing. Tom was sat down, breathing heavily, and the girls were discussing stuff in the corner. Finally, Briony turned to us and said, "We should all look for another way out. It can't be that hard, right? Someone must have heard the explosion!"
"Yeah sure, someone's gotta keep an eye on Dylan though." I replied.
"I'll look after the poor ginger bastard." Alex volunteered.
So that was it. Alex and Dylan stayed in the main room, while me, Tom and Charlotte searched one half of the house, while Briony and Lucy searched the other. Hopefully we'd find a way out. We set out in our different directions.
I also took this opportunity to make things awkward.
"Hey, you two, didn't you go out back in high school?"
Tom narrowed his eyes at me while Charlotte instantly blushed.
"Don't bring this up." Tom angrily whispered at me.
"What? Why-"
"Just don't."
Tom stormed off into another room.
"What's his problem?" I asked Charlotte.
"I left without saying a word. After everything, and I didn't say anything to him once I left for university with Briony and Lucy. I haven't spoken to him until tonight."
"Damn. I feel bad now, shit!"
"It's not your fault. You didn't know."Half an hour later, me and Charlotte still couldn't find Tom. First, an explosion or something had blocked the front door, and now Tom had disappeared. It just keeps on getting worse! Before my thoughts got too tangled, a blood curdling scream interrupted my speech. It was coming from the other side of the house! Where Briony and Lucy were! Charlotte legged it, and I sprinted after her,
Tom would have to fend for himself. Finally, we arrived at an old, abandoned room. As I entered, I heard someone scream "Help!"
"Tim! What if it's a ghost?" Charlotte harshly mumbled behind me.
"Really? You believe in ghosts?" I laughed.
Suddenly, the door flew open, and I jumped backwards about six feet.
"Ghosts are stupid, huh?" Charlotte chuckled.
The room inside was barren, except for a large hole in the centre.
I peered down into it, ready to see some bloody demon.
Lucy had fallen into the hole, and had badly twisted her leg. Briony was nowhere to be seen.
"Guys! Oh thank god! Help, I think my legs broken!"
Charlotte slid into the hole, while I stayed up top, ready to lift them back up.
"Lucy, calm down. It's not that bad." Charlotte soothed her friend.
"Briony ran away from me after I fell. She looked scared. Why? What happened?"
"Nothing. It's okay. Just......what's that?"
Suddenly, it all went silent. I looked down into the gap, and saw them both staring at something, or someone.
"Charlotte? Lucy? What is it?"
A flash of light lit my eyes on fire, and through my ringing ears I could hear screaming. When I recovered, I jumped into the hole.
A bloody trail led into a fairly new-looking room. I kicked open the door, and briefly felt like a badass, before witnessing the horrible sight before me.
Lucy lay still, unmoving. Dead. Knife in her throat.
Charlotte was nearby, unconscious, and face bruised.
What the fuck? What the fuck?
My heart had never pounded so fast.
